CHAPTER III – METHODOLOGY

In this chapter, the researchers will discuss the research method used for the study,
reasons why the researchers used the method, brief description of the population and
sampling techniques. Moreover, this chapter will also contain the brief description of the
tool used in data gathering, the procedures, and the statistical analysis used coherent to
study.

RESEARCH DESIGN

The researchers chose a survey research design because it will best serve to answer
the questions and identify the purposes of the study.

The survey research is one, in which a group of people or items is studied by collecting
and analyzing data from only a few people or items considered being representative of
the entire group. In other words, only a part of the population is studied, and findings
from this are expected to be generalized to the entire population. Similarly, Babbie
(1990) defines it as inclusion of cross-sectional and longitudinal studies using
questionnaires or structured interviews for data collection, with the intent of generalizing
from a sample to a population.

Research Locale

The questionnaires will be given in three (3) national government agencies in the
Philippines namely: Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), Philippine
Sports Commission (PSC) and the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS).

They will be interviewed in their respective offices or any convenient area that the
respondent will choose to. The study is bound and limited to the responses and insights
among the sample respondents assigned at the different Units of the aforementioned
agencies.

Samples and Sampling Techniques

The sources of data of this study are the JO and COS employees, Human Resource
personnel and employee union board officers. These respondents will be coming from
the Central Offices of the identified national government agencies.

For this study, the researchers will have a total of 150 respondents that will be equally
divided to DPWH, GSIS and PSC. The composition of these 50 respondents will be one
(1) HR officer, one (1) Union Board Officer and forty- eight (48) JO and COS personnel.
Research Instrumentation

In this study, the researchers obtained data from the respondents through survey. They
survey tool adapted for this study is the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire (MSQ).

The Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire was one of the outputs from the “Work
Adjustment Projects” of the University of Minnesota. The underlying theory of this is
based on the assumption that work fit is dependent on the correlation between the
individual skills and the conduciveness of working environment. ( Weiss,et.al)

The Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire short form is a twenty item questionnaire.

Items are rated in a five (5) point scale format: Very Sat (Very Satisfied) - more than you
expected, Sat. (Satisfied) - what you expected, "N" (Neither Satisfied nor Dissatisfied) -
not the job gives you what you expected, "Dissat." (Dissatisfied)- less than you
expected, "Very Dissat." (Very Dissatisfied)- much less than you expected.
