Hidden Figures

-Reaction Paper

When I heard about the title of the movie that we are going to
watch, my first thought about it was all about mathematics. As the film
started, I’ve noticed that the main casts are black Americans which later
on as they grew older, were a victim of racism. There are three brilliant
characters namely Katherine Johnson, Dorothy Vaughan, and Mary
Jackson who were invited to work in NASA as they have superlative and
accelerated skills on Mathematics above everyone else. The movie also
explains on how those women fought about their rights (segregation for
black and white people). The racism on the movie was illustrated as
there was no toilet for black people in NASA’s office. A certain reason
on the movie why Katherine needs to walk miles away just to use a
comfort room. It was astonishing to watch on how Katherine could plot
the trajectories by using some derivatives. In the movie, Katherine
Johnson used Euler’s method which is related to calculus. The method
used was another technique used to a differential equation which makes
the importance of calculus in her equation. Thus, their intellect brought
John Glenn to the space for an orbital project. I was so amaze on how
Katherine Johnson was able to solve or calculate the total measurements
to make sure John Glenn’s orbit to the space would be successful and
make no errors.
