Job Purpose:
The purpose of the position to support in implementation of the media and communication strategy of
Oxfam in Pakistan while working with the communications and resilience team. To co-ordinate the digital
and public advocacy and communication function of the resilience department and work with the local
partners in implementation of advocacy and communication activities.
(a) Deliver high visibility and quality campaigns products for Oxfam and partners:
Assist in developing and managing advocacy and communication strategies and activities of
projects according to Oxfam’s and donor’s (DFAT) procedures to ensure and promote Oxfam’s
reputation and impact.
Write and/or edit corporate materials on the resilience programme and ensure these materials are
communicated through appropriate channels.
Support the implementation of internal and external advocacy and communication plans of the
resilience project.
Provide technical support and advice to partner project staff on communication methods, materials
and channels.
Organise advocacy and communications-related visits and tours for Oxfam staff, partners, media,
donors and others.
(b) Maintain and support Oxfam’s internal communications and knowledge management process:
Maintain an updated plan for Advocacy & Communication in consultation with the resilience
programme team to ensure that timely and effective support is available
Maintain an overview of project documentation, ensuring that appropriate information is generated
to communicate the impact of the project.
Maintain a photo repository of high quality photos of the resilience and other projects in Pakistan
which will be used at events, donors, information packages and visibility etc.
Support in developing and regularly updating resilience and other projects details on Oxfam’s
Pakistan page, regional and international websites and the Oxfam in Pakistan website.
Develop resilience project brochure, one pager to communicate with private sector for their
engagement in risk financing and market linkages.
(c) Manage Oxfam’s external and digital communications at country level to support campaigns:
Work with resilience project and other programme teams at Oxfam and with partners to ensure
production of high quality communication products – such as best practice case stories, photos,
annual reports, newsletters, blogs, video for the Oxfam in Pakistan Facebook page, newsletters, etc.
Ensure regular field visits to Sindh and other places to collect material for external use (donors,
supporters, the private sector, policy makers).
Assist senior management team working in line with Oxfam’s digital communications strategy and
addressing specific needs, exploring new ways to get messages across using social media, online
platforms and mobile technology, and supporting country teams and partners in developing and
maximising their use of digital and multimedia technology.
Support the production of information packs, power point presentations, speeches and other
materials for use at events.
(d) Build Advocacy and communication capacity of others
As required, conduct advocacy and communications trainings and workshops for resilience project
partners and also support them in designing and implementation of campaigns to link from district to
national and global level.
Assist Oxfam project and partner team in conducting and mapping specific needs on media
engagement, branding and use of social media and digital technology.
Ensure that proper administration and logistics systems and procedures are followed in the
procurement of goods and services particular related to Oxfam and DFAT guidelines.
Masters in Journalism and Mass Communication, development studies, economics, advance degree
in advocacy and communication will be an added advantage. Other four year degrees with relevant
experience in internal and external communication and media engagement may be considered.
Excellent English writing skills
Experience in advocacy and communication, development, feature or analytical writing
Sound understanding on the climate change and disaster risk reduction context of Pakistan and the
rights-based approach to development.
Ability to work in very organized manner with high level skill in planning, interpersonal
communication, presentation and coordination.
Full technically competence in internal communication, advocacy, campaigns design and
implementation, media engagement, social media, pubic campaigning. Experience in working with
rural communities, vulnerable group and private sector will be an added advantage.
Experience in visibility and brand management, ability to identify branding risk and suggest
appropriate solutions.
Ability to frequently travel to remote areas of Pakistan.
Ability to stay up to date with internal or external activities which may influence role.
Willingness and ability to adapt priorities to respond to changing demands.
Some experience in budget management and procurement to ensure quality of communication
products.
Some experience in media partnership and event management.
Must demonstrate commitment and sensitivity to gender and diversity issues.
