NEW K110 ADAPTERS FOR HEX AND LOADER
BUCKETS

This IRM announces the launch of a new series of K110 adapters for HEX, Track
Loader and Wheel Loader buckets. This change was to address premature adapter
nose breakage in some applications due to stress concentration at the junction between
the lock slot and the webbing at the bottom of the lock slot.

Description

By removing this webbing at the bottom of the lock slot, stress was significantly reduced
in the lock slot area of the adapter, which increased the side loading strength by 20%
and the top loading strength by 50%.

The old part numbers of the K110 adapters have been Cancelled and Replaced By
(CRB) by new numbers. If a dealer orders the old part number, Caterpillar Inc. will
automatically send them the new and updated adapter. Caterpillar Inc. is also shipping
these new adapters on buckets from the factory, however, buckets with old adapters
may still be shipped for several months due to inventoried bucket assemblies. The old
adapters and new adapters will utilize the same K110 tips and retainers and can be
used on the same bucket edge. The numbers of these new adapters are as follows:

Summary

Caterpillar Inc. has updated the K110 adapters for HEX, Wheel Loader, and Track
Loader buckets to decrease stress concentrations and to increase the overall strength
and life of the adapters. These adapters are on buckets that are shipping from the
factory now. All old K110 adapter part numbers have been CRB’d and are no longer
available for sale, however, due to on hand bucket inventory, buckets with the old
adapters will continue to be shipped from the factory. Please continue to use all
buckets with these old style adapters.
