TheFoundingof theCovenant
For a new chapter of Adeptus Astartes created during the recent Ultima Founding, many observers have
found it surprising how many legends are already circulating around this silent formation. Since their
founding over a century ago, many have tried to find out the truth within this strange Covenant; all, so far,
have been thwarted.

gender chapters. The Azure Covenant's remarkably high
casualty rate would have severely weakened most other Space
Marines units, but the Covenant has found aspirants suitable to
be Astartes at more than twice the ratio of other chapters.

NOTEVENANAME
Those first Astartes who were first awoke were sworn to
silence outside of their own kin. This become the abiding vow of
the Covenant; the Omerta. The Astartes would not ever speak to
outsiders, to protect themselves and their chapter. The strange
and silent advance of the Azure Covenant is not an individual
vow of silence, but a mutual collective respect of this Omerta.
Death at the hands of their own comrades is not unknown for
the marines of the Covenant, and any who might threaten the
Omerta will be quickly dealt with by their squad mates.
Even puritan Inquisitors, armed with the full authority of their
office and the High Lords of Terra, have been met by this stony
voicelessness. Famously, the Lord Inquisitor Ira Kuri walked
throughout the Covenant's fortress-Library, unhindered by any
security measure but met with stony silence with every single
inquiry. She left sixty-two days later, having not exchanged a
single word with any member of the Covenant.
Yet the Covenant are gregarious amongst their own kind.
Groups of like-minded marines share knowledge on an ad-hoc
basis, while the Librarius has more formal reading circles to
compare and develop their knowledge. The Fortress Librarius
holds great tomes of occult and mundane knowledge - a
collection which would easily shame a Lord Inquisitor's archive.
From where these texts came, no-one can yet say.

AChapter Apart
As suits its self-inflicted paranoia and secrecy, the organisation of the Azure Covenant is as unique as the

TheCovenant Divided
The organisation of the Azure Covenant is as unique as its geneseed. This division of forces was first created by the
original Chapter Regent of the Covenant alongside Magos Dominus Cawl. This force organisation was said to be based
on the Ultramarines Battle Companies; however, it bears little relationship to their alleged forebears.

THEASTEROIDOFFURNACEHOLD
The outpost of Furnace Hold is an artificial moon which was
dragged into orbit of Germania by the Adeptus Mechanicus
while the Fortress Library of the Azure Covenant was being
established. An captured asteroid approximately half the mass of
Earth's moon, it was seeded with Adeptus Mechanicus
technology which ruthlessly exploits the rich minerals they find
upon this rocky orbiting body.
W hile it is classified by the Imperium as a 'Mechanicus
outpost', Furnace Hold is far more than that. The orbiting rock
claims to have unique STC information which allows them to
design and build previously unseen technology. Others have
pointed out that it does not make sense to those
within the Adeptus Mechanicus to hide such
incredibly valuable information on a small rock far
away from any major forgeworld.
This is, therefore, probably yet another lie
surrounding the Covenant. The truth of the extensive
installations upon Furnace Hold is not known; those

permanently bound to Furnance Hold are known to
be acolytes and followers of Bellisarus Cawl, and it
could well be a base or outpost for their tech-heresy.
Mechanicus ships regualarly travel between
Furnance Hold and the surface of Germania, as well as
travelling between the Forge at the base of the
Fortress Library and then back to the asteriod.
Deliveries of equipment - bolter shells, Mark X power

arsenal. New vehicles, unique to the Covenant and
alleged to be based on 'lost STC' fragments, are
bequeathed to the Covenant and used to great effect.
But what is unloaded from the Praes Forge and
returned to the moon is unclear. Large boxes of
equipment and supplies are regularly taken to the
moon on these landing craft. Many of these crates are
likely to be equipment to ensure that the Praes

Battlesof theCovenant
Since their very inception, the Azure Covenant has been involved in numerous campaigns and battles
throughout the Segmentum Tempestus. However, the Covenant is a fickle ally, often pursuing their own
objectives instead of the overall aim of a campaign. This, and their habitual silence, has made many other

VehicleHeraldry
The simple two-tone heraldry of the Azure Covenant is represented upon the armoured panels for their vehicles. The
squad and unit markings can be seen through ultraviolet light, ensuring that even the Athenaeum and squadron
marking remain secret to those outside of the Covenant. The name of each vehicle is clearly noted on the turret,
showing the enemy the true name of the tank and which of these vehicles they should fear the most. Tanks with names
such as 'Draze'sRazor' or 'Baneof D'yna' speak to the detailed history and significant kills each of these vehicles have
made over their long service with the Chapter.

THERE-COMPLIANCEOFFINNEGAN'SWAKE
The re-compliance of Finnegan's W ake was an assault action taken by the Azure Covenant during M42.117, during the overall
campaign to return the planet of Joyce VI to Imperial control. Once a Prima grade Imperial holding within the Segmentum
Tempestus, it was a priority target for the Virtuous Crusade. The Azure Covenant, with elements of the Nemesors, Silver Drakes
and Charnel Guard, was assigned to take the planet as swiftly as possible. The battle which followed was a classic example of the
Azure Covenant's elements working together closely. The walled city of Finnegan's W ake was heavily defended by heretic
regiments, principally the remains of the planet's 465th Heavy Footfall Regiment, re-programmed battle automatons, and a
mercenary heretic Astartes warband tentatively identified as ++REDACTED+++ or +++CENSORED+++ . The total enemy
strength was estimated at 312 enemy Astartes and approximately 28,000 human defenders. W ith the entire chapter committed, the
Chapter Regent quickly launched an attack before the enemy city's defenses could be further improved.
The initial engagement was the commitment of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Athenaeum into a quickly fortified position outside of
the city walls. As expected, the artillery and the main force of the enemy focuses their efforts upon the Intercessors and
Hellblasters. These Athenaeums begin exchanging fire with the forces upon the walls of the city. Despite the support of two of
the Covenant's Astraeus tanks, the tactical situation remains stationary with no breakthrough made.

W ith the situation on the cities west static, the Repulsors and Executioners of the Azure Covenant launch their armoured
attack upon the city's eastern gate and wall. Grinding through the ruins of the city, las-talon fire brings down the gate but
counter-attacks from the tops of buildings bog down the column on the main road.

These attacks do not last long, however. Inceptor Squads of the 6th and 8th Athenaeums, covered by a psychic storm
summoned by a coven of Librarians, drop past the blinded anti-aircraft positions. Leaping from roof to roof, they hunt down
the enemy holding up the armoured column. Other squads focus on the power-signs of Heretic Astartes, sweeping through
the streets in a hunter-killer posture and annihilating the heretics with mass-reactive shells.

W ith the Azure Covenant cutting its way through the city, the Renegade commander prepares to commit his armour and his
reserves from the fortress into the city. However, these forces are interdicted by an sudden attack by the Damned Seventh,
who launch an almost-suicidal attack upon the fortresses' walls. Supporting fire from two Astraeus tanks open up a breach
through which the 7th charge. The last Damned Intercessor is able to use a krak grenade against the fortresses generator,
obliterating it in a huge explosion. There are no survivors from the 7th.

W ith this fortress destroyed in less than three hours, a city of over 340,000 souls was reclaimed for the Emperor. The effectiveness
of the Azure Covenant in battle was once again proven. After this victory the Chapter left almost mmediately, emptying a vault
within the fortresses' ruins before they did. No Inquisitor was ever able to find out what was recovered.

silence. To abandon it now, even if it saves the Chapter, her battle prowess and her political acumen will be tested like
would be a betrayal of all those within the Hall of it has never been tested before.
Leadersof theCovenant
The leaders of the Covenant are some of its most deadly fighters. Each is a hugely skilled combatant with bolter
or blade, hardened by the forges of war and their decades of experience fighting the Imperium's enemies. Any of
the opponents who have felt the bite of such an warrior's weapons are rightly cautious about meeting them
again.

ATHENEUMPROVOST
The Provosts of the Atheneums are the most experienced non-psychic members of the Covenant, each helping to
command an entire Atheneum. They represent the best and the worst in the Covenant, typifying the insular, silent
nature of the Omerta, while combining it with a scholar's energy and drive to discover. This dichotomy has often
baffled those outside of the Covenant which do not see through the silent exterior. But there is nothing grim about the
discourse that Covenant marines engage in; lively academic debates rage between the different circles of researchers. It
is this strange divided personality that Atheneum Provosts seek to embody as they lead each formation.
In combat, they are leaders without compare. Each Provost has been tested in combat a thousand times, and have
avoided the dangers of the enemy and of the Praes for centuries. Each is as spiritually pure as any could be; those who
were not would not be appointed to this rank. They can command with a gesture or a mind-coded pulse of thought,
leading their troops into battle with the habitual silence of the Covenant. From there, they will watch and intervene,
commanding their ally's bolter fire or bringing their own blade to battle. W hatever is required of them, the Provost
will excel to bring the Covenant victory.

ATHENEUMLIBRARIANEMERITUS
The Librarian Emeritus is the most senior member of the Covenant's Librarium, below only Vexi Rachmiel herself
in skill, power and authority. As the most powerful and experienced psykers, they are vital to the organisation of the
Covenant whether on Germenia Dyo or on campaign. Unlike Librarians from other chapters, Emeritus Librarians are
trained as commanders as much as Librarians, as they may be called upon to take over if one half of the Duolexican is
lost.
Emeritus Librarians are responsible for the training, discipline and purity of the Noviate Librarians under their
command. They will lead training circles, schooling their charges in the uses of warp magic in all situations. W hether
it is the simple application of telekensis to guide a bolt shell, or the channelled power of a warp fire conflagration, the
Emeritus Librarian will have given the junior Librarians hours of practise, concentration and meditation in doing so.
In battle, Librarians Emeritus' are a whirlwind of destructive energies. They can summon warpfire and lighting to
destroy their enemy, or rip a hole in realiy to drag a battle-tank into the howling void. They can re-knit wounds, avoid
the heaviest barrages using precognitive abilities and shroud their comrades in ghosts to avoid the full impact of
enemy fire. If these unnatural energies are not enough, each Librarian is supremely skilled with their force weapon;
bringing deadly axes, staffs and swords wreathed in fire to any melee. These deadly relics are enough to tip any any
hand to hand engagement to a successful end.

ATHENEUMSUB-PROVOST
In battle, Sub-Provosts serve as the eyes, ears and armament of the Duolexican. Each Sub-Provost, similar to a
lieutenant in other chapters, is a non-psychic Astartes, having usually been promoted where they were acting as a
squad sergeant for Hellblaster, Inceptor or Reiver squads. More rarely, battleline Intercessors are promoted straight
from a line squad to this lieutenancy, but this is normally in cases of extreme valour or heavy casualties. Scholars of the
Covenant's history will note that such times have often been found amongst even the short history of the Covenant.
As junior commanders, Sub-Provosts are expected to follow their Provost's orders in aiding the battle plan. They
direct fire from squads and battle-lines, helping their intercessors target the enemy's weak points. They also lead
charges and inspire the marines around them to greater heights of glory and slaughter. In the case of the Duolexican
being disrupted, Sub-Provosts will also form an alternative command structure, joining with the Librarian Codicers to
take over. In this way, the Covenant is always well led and has a command structure of both the mundane and the
psychically aware.

24
PRIMARISAPOTHECARY
Standing outside of the formal Atheneum structure, the Apothercarian Medicae is a crucial instuition for the continuation
of the Covenant and its future. Apothecaries are arguable some of the hardest working members of the Covenant, as they are
responsible for both recruiting, implantation and assessement of these initiates, while also helping to heal the inevitable
wounds of both training and war.
In battle, this is one of the primary roles of the Apothecaries. W ith their wrist mounted nartheciums, they can administer
intravenous drugs, adreneal cocktails and other, more potent mixtures to keep a wounded Astartes on their feet and fighting.
However, if the damage is too severe, then an Apothecary has a final painfully caring duty; to administer the Emperor's
Mercy with their reductor pistol. A shot to the head will end the unendingly painful lives of those too injured to survive, and
then the irprogeniod glands can be harvested. These organs rest within the chest and neck of a Space Marine; recovering
them helps to ensure the next generation of Astartes can be born.
This duty is never ending, given the losses that the Praes W ardens inflict upon the Covenant even when the Chapter is not
on a war footing. These losses must be replaced, and so only a healthy and unbroken flow of recruits will keep the Covenant
at full strength.

ATHENEUMTORCHBEARER
The Azure Covenant has no Chaplains. As a non-codex compliant Chapter of the Astartes, it is unclear if they ever had a
Chapel to assure their loyalty to a conventional cult. However, the need for spiritual and philosophical leadership remains.
Astartes, especially those in a chapter as insular and oppressive as the Azure Covenant, need guidance and aid to deal with
problems of morality, spirituality and the right conduct. W hile the official Folio of Regulations detail all the myriad rules of
the Covenant, it does not address these deeper issues. The duty to discuss this falls upon the senior, non-psychic members of
the Covenant, those who are not able or willing to pursue an officer's command path. To these more intellectually minded
warriors is often awarded the rank of Torch Bearer.
The Torch Bearer is a war-leader and thought-crafter in equal measure. They are the warrior-philosophers of the
Covenant, teasing out problems of morality, purpose and meaning in this cruel and warp-torn galaxy. Outside of combat,
they hold debates and symposia, leading different circles in academic debate and discussion. One of their monographs 'On the
morality of Silence and Intervention' was smuggled out of the Covenant and immediately declared an Ultima grade moral
threat by some Inquisitors. Other, less puritan inquisitors, have found its reflection on the nature of the Imperium to be a
liberation.
In battle, the Torch Bearer leads their comrades in furious battle. As a symbol of illumination against the darkness of
ignorance all around them, they show the way to victory against it. Burning their foes alive with the light of truth inspires
those around to fight that much harder against such forces.

ATHENEUMDUELLISTS
At their heart, the Azure Covenant is still a chapter of honourable brave warriors. For those Astartes who chose to focus on
supreme martial ability rather than academic discourse, they can be promoted to the role of Atheneum Duellist. This warrior,
selected from their comrades because of these skills, is a throwback of an earlier age; where champions duelled ahead of their
lords for glory and honour. In the shattered Imperium, such martial honour and glory is long lost - but skilled melee warriors
still have their role, even now.
In battle they seek out enemy leaders and exemplars, challenging them to honourable single combat with naked steel.
W aiting for the right moment, the Duellist will slip out of the ranks of Intercessors, bellowing their challenge as they go.
Raising the elegant rapiers, they meet the enemy blade to blade, locking them in single combat. Using mediative katas and
secret duelling techniques they can slip around or beneath their opponent's guard, killing them with a single, deadly thrust to
the heart or head. Such elegant victory will make the duellist into legends, and many of the Covenant aspire to kill with such
unreal skill and grace.

ATHENEUMANCIENT
The Atheneum Ancient is a living link to the Covenant's history and the many Astartes who have lived and died in the blue
shouldered armour. Awarded to the oldest living member of an Atheneum, it is their honour to carry the banner of each
section of the Covenant in battle, holding the battleline together even while the enemy close in around them.
Ancients help the younger Astartes to remember their famed ancestors, and find more strength within themselves when
even their transhuman bodies are failing. Such icons of the Covenant's honour and nobility will lend energy to those souls,
even at the end of their life. The banners carried are the living legends of the Chapter, and are treated with true reverance
whether on or off the battlefield. Their bearers are treated with the same respect and awe, especially by those newly initiated
in the the Covenant's mysteries.
25
Soldiersof theCovenant
W hen the Covenant goes to war, it can deploy a variety of different forces within its strike groups and
Atheneums. It is not just the individual gene craft of a single warrior, or their skill in battle which makes the
Covenant lethally effective. It is the combination of these different warriors to create a force that can meet any
threat that makes the armies of the Adeptus Astartes so deadly.

PRIMARISINTERCESSORSQUADS
Intercessors are the battle line marines for the Azure Covenant. They stride into
battle clad in Mark X Tacticus pattern battleplate, enemy fire ricocheting helplessly
from the thick ceramite plating. Their bolt rifles blaze relentlessly, picking out the
enemy with precision shots as they seek to exterminate them in a welter of bolt
and shell-fire. Their discipline and relentless aggression makes them a force than
can shatter enemy armies in a single attack.
Created by the Tech-Mago Belisarius Cawl, the Primaris Intercessors represent
the next step in Adeptus Space Marines. Intercessors are larger and more durable
than their cousins, gene-forged to survive hits that would destroy a light vehicle
and slay any normal man with ease.
They make up the majority of the Marines in the Atheneums, and are led into
battle by the Noviate Librarians as squad commanders. W hile many
Intercessors do not demonstrate psychic abilities, those that do are taken into
the Librarium for additional training. However, even those trainee Librarians
must complete their time as a line Intercessors, defending the Covenant with
massed ranks of bolter fire. These acccurate, carefully timed volleys scythe
relentlessly within through the enemy.
The combination of this skill with Noviate Librarians make these additionally
deadly. The flames of the warp will sing around the magazines and then
mouths of their bolt guns, spitting warp fire bolts as often as they fire
conventional ammunition. Such unearthly bolters add a fiery punch to their already deadly explosive cargo, and have
been to even punch through the armour plates of tanks.

PRIMARISHELLBLASTERSQUADS
Hellblasters are the true killers of the Chapter, wielding devastating Plasma Incinerators
to spectacular effect. They are a single weapon force, a throwback to the days of the
Legio Astartes using their deadly plasma weapons against heavy infantry and vehicles
alike. Like a burning solar flare, each volley of the Hellblasters easily tear apart their
enemy, leaving only scorched wreckage or corpses behind.
A plasma incinerator is a weapon of lethal design. Using a backpack mounted power
source, the energy which a plasma Incinerator expels is of a magniture more
powerful than the more common plasma gun. A design of Belisarius Cawl
strictly for the new Primaris troops, only those with the dura-steel alloy bones
and enhanced muscles of a Adeptus Primaris could wield such a weapon.
Each Hellblaster is a trained veteran with a true commitment to self-sacrifice. The
weapons they wield are inherently unstable, and may vomit devastating plasma
upon its user in a terrible backlash at the power being unleashed. Each Hellblaster
knows the risks and is willing to spend their life to achieve ultimate victory. Those
who die in this way will be recorded forever in the Covenant's Hall of
Enlightenment. Those who survive know that they will have have lead the Chapter to victory.

26
PRIMARISREIVERSANDINFILTRATORS
Reivers are terrors troops that the Azure Covenant relies upon when it wants a hard, fast
offensive. A squad of Reivers, silent in their Phobos pattern armour, will lay ambushes
and form kill squads, hunting in the night for the enemy's weakness. Once they have
found them, the merciless Reiver will brutally murder them. The bloodied bodies are left
behind for others to find as an example, before the Reivers slip off into the night.

Some in the Azure Covenant do not believe that Reivers are a weapon which the
Chapter should use. They think that psychic powers are enough to intimidate and terrify
their enemy. However, battles such as Gregorian Chasm prove otherwise. Ambushing
Reivers slew the enemy commander and destroyed the enemy's communications array; the
heretic force subsequently fell apart and were destroyed piecemeal.
More than most Adeptus Astartes, Reivers are expected to be extremely flexible in their style
of warfare. W hen required to scout instead of hunt, Reivers will often act in the role of
Infiltrators, forward scouts and advanced reconnaissance troops. Re-equipping their Photos
armour with different helms and sensors, they can seek targets for the chapter to strike at,
going on independently led, months long patrols to find such enemies.
W hen they are required to engage the target themselves, the Vanguard are deadly with
their marksmen rifles, felling enemy commanders and specialists with deadly fusillades of
fire before slipping back into the night.

PRIMARISWARP-FIREAGGRESSORS
Only the veterans of the Covenant are members of the 1st Athenaeum, are permitted to wear Mark
X Gravis armour. This armour is heavier than normal Mark X battlesuits, and it adds
protection as the Aggressors push through their enemy lines.
Aggressors are line breakers, slow but steady, and what they cannot destroy with their
bolt-storm gauntlets or warp-fire flamers will fall to their power fists in close combat.
Covenant Aggressors are supremely powerful combatants, and they are further
enhanced by the psychic mastery of the Noviate Librarian leading the squad.
W hile the Librarian struggles to cast psychic powers from within the heavy plate,
they are equipped to channel the power of the Empyrean into their weapons. This
warp-fire ignites around the bolts, or is sprayed out atop burning prometheum, adding terrifying
effect to the deadly fusillade of fire from the Aggressors. Azure Covenant Aggressors are
noticably more lethal than those of their more codex-compliant unis.
In this way, Aggressors can spear-head the attacks of Lentacessors to break the enemy apart. Better that their heavy
plates take the impact, leading their Atheneum comrades into deadly close engagements.

PRIMARISINCEPTORS
W aiting, high in orbit, the strike cruisers of the Azure Covenant watch the little flickers of the
lights of the battle far below. W ith an quiet order, the Primaris inceptor leap out into space,
ready for the drop into the atmosphere. They accelerate as they fall, heating up as they do
until they glow like the meteorites or the orbital debris that they often hide amongst.
Decelerating violently as they approach the battlefield, the Inceptors engage with assault
bolters, annihilating their targets in a storm of fire. Using their jump pack to fly move
from position to position, they pick out the vulnerabilities in the line and tear them
open. The Azure Covenant use inceptors on the flanks of the battle, attacking quickly
and then leaving gaps for Intercessors and Aggressors to exploit and destroy.
The Inceptors are also raiding troops, earning their name 'The Terror-Born'. They operate
with their jump packs independently of the main force and while they require regularly orbital
resupply of ammunition and fuel for their thirsty jump-packs, they can cover great distances at speed. Such raids can be
devastating, ending an enemy offensive before it even began.

27
INITIATEINFANTRYSQUAD
The initiates of the Azure Covenant are the future of the Azure Covenant, and
they are brought into the Chapter quicker than many other chapters. W hile
maintaining the extremely high standard of recruits from Germania Dyo,
the losses that the Covenant takes means that their recruitment has to be
efficient, effective and with as few a losses as possible. The more members
the Covenant has, the more recruits can be funnelled into the Intercessor
squads as they suffer the expected losses.
Initiates are the still-developing recruits to the Chapter. They are trained
and equipped while they are still physically maturing, the months that
will bring these recruits to full size and ready to be equipped in their
power armour. They will also study hard, brought into the initial
mysteries of the Covenant but still unaware of the greater secrets of the
Chapter. These growing Initates are also a resource which the Covenant is
willing to use in battle, helping their larger comrades to prevail in
battle.
Fighting as support infantry, the Initates operate akin to an attached
battalion for their main force; a large formation of light infantry ready
to take objectives, garrison positions and reinforce units which had
already taken losses. Some initiates will come to maturity while on
campaign, and be inducted into the squads as full Astartes are killed. Many
of them inherit suits of armour in doing so, taking the role of the Marine
killed before them. Such events are already anticipated in calculating unit strength.
Led by veteran sergeants, these initiates are known to be brave fighters, especially when they are watched by the
older members of the Covenant. Such young recruits will always seek to gain approval from their peers, and speed
their way to becoming full Astartes Primaris Marines.

DAMNEDINTERCESSORS
Those members of the Azure Covenant who fall afoul of the Praes W ardens are
doomed. If they are not killed immediately, these unfortunates will be taken
deep into the Forge at the heart of the Azure's fortress and held there to
undergo a procedure that only the Praes Suzerain knows. The brutal details of
this are secret, perhaps to stop the Azure Covenant turning upon their jailors.
W hen this Astartes returns, they are no longer the person they were. It
does not matter whether the victim was a Noviate Librarian, a squad
Sergeant, or a Athenaeum Provost with decades of experience, all
return the same. Very little remains of their personality - just
autonomic impulses and a will to agree with orders. These Damned
Intercessors have their armour painted bone white, and are equipped
with identical death masks to show that they are no longer members of the
Covenant: nothing more than the walking dead. No-one speaks to them, because
they will not reply except to agree with their orders. They do not recognise their
old friends, comrades or histories, and seem to know little about themselves.
Even their names are gone. Damned Intercessors are assigned their death
numbers when inducted into the seventh.
In battle, Damned Intercessors must be commanded in a way that few other
Astartes require. Unless they are commanded otherwise, they will attack relentlessly, robotically closing with the
enemy and destroying them. Perhaps this shows an echo of who they once were; fighting relentlessly until they
are slain. That death does not take long - few survive a half-dozen battles.

28
PRIMARISLENTACESSORS
Lentacessors are members of the First Athenaeum who are not equipped with Aggressor armour.
They are veterans of the many wars the Azure Covenant have fought, and some might even
be the original group of Primaris Marines awoken by Bellisarius Cawl,
well over a century ago.
Even by the standards of Primaris marines born into the Ultima
Crusade, these Astartes are hardened and experienced,. They
have survived hundreds of battles, dozens of campaigns, and
been smelted in the furnance of wars which have slain millions around
them.
To honour their survival they are awarded the Crux Terminatus, the mark of a veteran,
and a master-crafted chainsword. Lentacessors are expected to be bodyguards to
commanders or heavy assault infantry, leading a charge of Intercessors to overwhelm a
defence line, supporting their comrades where the fighting is thickest. In those swirling
melees, their experience and reflexes can make the difference between victory and
defeat.
Lentacessors are also known as the Guardians. In a Chapter with no Chaplains,
spiritual guidance is passed down between generations of Intercessors, each
watching the younger members of the Covenant for ability or deviance. Some
Lentacessors will try and counsel those thought to be under threat by the Praes. Astartes lives may have even be saved,
though they can only speculate how many.

PRAESWARDENS
Praes W ardens are not Astartes, but biomechanical constructions of the Adeptus Mechanicus. They are metallic horrors,
a mass of tentacle limbs, spiked talons, and strange weapons mounted from their shoulders or other limbs. Even those
who work closely with the Mechanicum would recoil in horror at the vision of the Praes. These monsters are placed as
guards for the Azure Covenant, scrutinising them relentlessly. W hen a psyker from the Covenant is threatened by the
daemons within the warp, the weapons of the Praes will save their soul before the Daemons can take it. As they know the
secret weak point of each suit of Azure Covenant power armour, their shots will usually end the lives of the Space
Marines they 'protect.' This, they call mercy.
In battle, the Praes watch the Azure Covenant and the enemy in equal measure. The same weapons are often turned upon
the enemy - the Vulkite blasters, Plasma Culverins and Phosphor Casters tear through the enemy ranks like paper.
Despite the hatred the Covenant hold for them, the Praes' heavier weapons can win longer range fire-fights where the
Primaris marines might been at a disadvantage.
This covering fire has helped support several charges by the Lentacessors. Against the T'au on Fraklin's Sphere, their
concentrated barrages destroyed several Hammerhead grav tanks, allowing the Lentacessors to close with the Fire
W arriors and butcher them around the still flaming wrecks.

29
REDEMPTORDREADNOUGHT
Even in death, a member of the Azure Covenant can still serve their chapter. A dreadnought, at its heart, is a
weaponised, robotic war tomb. W ithin its armoured bulk is the sarcophagus of a fatally wounded marine, only
held alive by the life-support machinery which surrounds them. W hat little remains of their body still has
potential though, as their minds and their experiences remain intact.
The sarcophagus is connected to a Redemptor Dreadnought, a heavily armoured exoskeleton armed with a
choice of powerful weapons. From within the Dreadnought's bulk, the interred marine becomes a striding
avatar of the Emperor's destructive wrath. Macro Plasma Incinerators destroy all in their sights, while Heavy
Onslaught Cannons rip apart infantry squads with ease. Frag launchers and anti-aircraft missile launchers
compliment these weapons, engaging and destroying any survivors. W hen the dreadnought closes with the
enemy, its deadly Redemptor power fist is able to tear apart buildings, battle tanks and squads of heavily
amoured foes with contemptible ease.
Redemptor Dreadnoughts are the latest model of the venerable dreadnought, standing significantly larger and
taller than the designs before it. Arch Magos Cawl's scions, and the Forge W orlds allied with the Azure
Covenant, continue to provide these machines for the Chapter. Having seen their destructive potential, the first
Chapter Regent declared that there is no need for any other types of Dreadnought in the chapter, as these
weapon platforms provide all of the fire support they need. This edict was renewed by every Regent since.
However, these newer dreadnoughts are angry machines, with a demanding machine spirit and a thirsty reactor.
Those interred into a Redemptor dreadnought may find themselves burnt out by their efforts, and give their
lives to the Emperor far quicker than those in other dreadnought classes. W hile Magos Cawl may believe this is
a an acceptable loss, many of those in the Azure Covenant disagree. But the effectiveness of the design is
undoubted.
Unique to the Azure Covenant is the Redemptor Librarian Dreadnought. W hile the design is yet to be
perfected, former Librarians can be interred within Redemptors and still retain a measure of their powers.
W hile it is only an echo of their former skill, these Librarians are still able to cast warp lighting against their
enemies, supporting their ceaseless gunfire.

30
REPULSORTRANSPORT
The Azure Covenant, as fitting with a Chapter created working closely with the Mechanicus, has been equipped
with the newest forms of Magos Cawl's creations. One of the deadliest of these is the newly designed Repulsor
Transport.
Designed to support Primaris Marines in combat, the Repulsor is a tank and an armoured personal carrier
combined. It travels upon gravitic motors, keeping it aloft and able to move rapidly from one position to
another. The Repulsor does not fly, however. The crushing force of its downward blasting engines rips apart
anything beneath it, pounding dirt or ferrocrete flat with force. Any enemy unlucky enough to be caught by the
blast of its engines will end up squashed to paste.
The Repulsor is armed for both anti-tank and anti-infantry warfare. Its Las-talon is a rapid fire laser weapon
capable of scorching through enemy armour with ease. If more armour is expected, then the techp-riests of the
Praes W ardens will equip the Repulsor with a further pair of lascannons, ensuring that any tank which comes
into range of these weapons are quickly reduced to smoking wreckage.
Other weapons systems will engage enemy infantry - the turret mounted Onslaught Gatling Cannon and the frag
launchers tearing into squads as they approach, ripping them to pieces. Even enemy aircraft can be threatened by
deadly missiles of its Icarus Rocket Pod, or bullets from itsIronhail heavy stubber.
The Azure Covenant use Repulsor tanks as battering rams to break through heavily defended positions, its heavy
armour and sheer brute force deflecting and absorbing enemy fire. Their devastatingly accurate fire can
obliterate any enemy heavy equipment, and it can unleash W arpfire Aggressors straight into the midst of the
enemy. Few can stand against an attack by such a powerful vehicle, and even fewer will survive its assaults.

31
REPULSOREXECUTIONERBATTLETANK
W hile the Repulsors of the Azure Covenant are nominally transports, despite being more heavily armed than the
heaviest enemy vehicles, the Repulsor Executioner is a true battle tank. More than capable of duelling with the
heaviest of enemy amour, its standard armament of a heavy laser destroyer can smash through the protection of the
strongest opponent with ease.
If there is no enemy worthy of this heavy laser cannon's attention, the Executioner has multiple other weapons
systems with which to engage its targets. A heavy onslaught gatling cannon can tear apart infantry assaults, and what
survives that punishing onslaught will be targeted with heavy bolters and fragstorm grenade launchers to finish the
attack. Roving gunships, seeking an easy kill on the boxy Repulsor, can be brought down in flames with the twin
icarus iron-hail heavy stubbers. No enemy is safe when the Executioner is on the field.
Even enemy infantry seeking shelter will be flushed out of hiding by the infantry in the back of the Executioner.
Lentacessors in particular like to ride within these tanks, engaging any enemies who might slip through the tank's
defences to attack up close.
At the Battle of Tenab, the newly introduced Executioners were crucial in securing victory for the Azure Covenant.
W ith the Covenant fighting against the traitor armoured forces of the renegade 417th Birulian Hussars, they were also
engaged by the Traitor Dreadblade, Sweet Agony of Innocence. This traitor war machine, armed with a thermal lance and
corrupted power fist, destroyed the Stormtalon gunship sent against in a blaze of super-heated energy.
Using their Heavy Onslaught Gatling cannons to keep the Renegade's ion shields down, the Executioners Glanant's
Revengeand Onslaught of Telur launched a counter-attack upon the the rampaging enemy war machine. W hile the
Knight was able to disable Glanant'sRevengewith a blast from its lance, destroying the Repulsor's engines and causing
it to crash to the floor, this allowed the Onslaught of Telur to find a targeting solution. Using it's specialist Aquilon
optical array, the Executioner unleashed two blasts of precision laser energy.
The first las shot pierced the Dreadblade's hip and melted its motivator unit. The second decapitated the war machine,
obliterating both head and pilot compartment in a massive explosion. W ith a scream, what remained of the machine
spirit of Sweet Agony of Innocencewas released back into the warp.

I nfiltr ator Ventie looked upon the position held by the Aeldar i. T he foul xenos had dug in deeply ar ound

32
ASTRAEUSSUPER-HEAVYTANK
The Astraeus Super-Heavy Tank is a true lord of war, the heaviest piece of equipment that any Primaris Space
Marine chapter is able to deploy alone. Other, heavier war-engines exist but are the sole property of knightly
houses and of the Legio Titanica. These are rarely seen with the Azure Covenant because of their deserved
reputation, especially amongst the more honourable members of the Imperium. Therefore, the Astraeus
super-heavy tank is the center piece to the Azure Covenant's armoured support.
These vehicles are based on the same technology as the Repulsor tank, with vast banks of gravimetric engines and
enhanced energy plates to propel it along. These immense engines power also power the huge double barrelled
macro-accelerator, a temperamental but hugely effective weapon which spits out immense shells at a terrifying
rate. Such a barrage is capable of destroying squadrons of tanks in a single barrage, or annihilating a city skyline
with a concentrated attack.
Such a powerful tank is a natural target, but the Astraeus is heavily armoured and equipped with void shields.
These marvels of arcane technology can deflect on-coming rounds before they even strike the hull, and even if they
do, thick slabs of ceremite protection protects the interior of the tank. Even anti-tanks weapons capable of
destroying a Repulsor tank would struggle against the armour of an Astraeus.
These immense tanks are used to support the advance of the Azure Covenant, providing fire support as they
advance right into the teeth of the enemy. W hen the Covenant deploy one of these war-engines, often there is not
much fighting for the rest of the Covenant to do when they get closer; the devastating effect of the Astraeus and its
weaponry is enough to demoralise the enemy to the point where they'll quickly retreat. But if they stand and fight,
then the victory of the Covenant is assured. Very few enemies can stand against an Astreaus tank and survive, and
the Covenant has never lost one of these immense war machines in battle.

33
Aircraft of theCovenant

ASHBLADEGROUNDSKIMMER
The Ashblade Skimmer is a unique design of vehicle for the Azure Covenant, allegedly based upon a 'recovered
STC fragment'. The scions of Bellisarius Cawl upon Furnace Hold manufacture and deliver this vechicle to the
Azure Covenant, where it serves as a patrol, interdiction and scout vehicle. Lightly armoured, it can move
quickly across any terrain, bringing a squad of Primaris Marines to intercept any threat that its advanced sensor
suite detects.
In battle, the Ashblade weaves through lines of enemy fire until it reaches its destination; then the full fury of the
Azure Covenant Marines on board is unleashed. The Ashblade then returns to pick up more Space Marine,
ferrying them to where they are needed most.

STORMHAWKINTERCEPTORSANDSTORMTALONGUNSHIPS
W hen the Covenant goes to war, they do so under the cover of their friendly gunships on high. W hen the
Covenant first begin their landings, the roar of the Stormhawk Interceptors sweeping clear the skies howls above
them. Ear-splitting ram-jet engines throw these planes through maneuvers which would kill any human pilot
through sheer g-forces alone, as they cut through the smoke of battle to seek out new enemy aircraft to destroy.
The pilots of the Covenant are deadly accurate, picking out the enemy planes they engage and blowing them out
of the sky with pinpoint assault cannon fire. Enemy aircraft, riddled with holes, tumble into the ground in a
series of explosions as the squadrons of Stormhawks sweep by. Air superiority is just a matter of time after these
pilots engage the enemy air force.
W ith the skies secure, the Stormtalon gunships deploy next to support the Covenant marines on the ground.
Though they are compact aircraft, what that lack in size they make up for in firepower and durability. Braving
the anti-aircraft and small arms fire, they engage the enemy on the ground, supporting the infantry as they
advance.

TheCovenant andtheInquisition

The nature of the Inqusition was always going

to bring the Azure Covenant into conflict with
them. Both organisations are focused on
discovering the truth, but neither agrees with the
other on what to do with such valuable
information.
There is argument inside both the Inquisition
and the Covenant about what to do with the
secrets they uncover. W ithin the Covenant, circles
debate and discuss with each other over the
matter, some arguing that what they find should
be shared with other Imperial institutions. Other
Astartes believe that their own hands are the
safest, especially those monitored by the cold
harsh brutality of the Praes Discipline. A third
group believe that sharing knowledge with all
equally will be enough to push the evil around the
Imperium back. After all, if the only good is
knowledge, then to not share it widely is almost an
act of evil through inactivity. The debates rage,
and it is not clear which side of them Chapter
Regent Rachmiel agrees upon, if any.
The Inquisition is more violently fractious
than the Covenant, who at least have the
advantage of a centralised chain of command. Split
between radicals and puritians, and then
shattering even further into factions upon
factions, each individual Inquisitor believes that
their own approach is the correct one. It is rare to
find a cause which will cause many Inquisitors to
unite. Violence between Inquisitors and their
supporters is not rare, where gunfire is used to
settle ideological and philosophical differences.
Despite these violent disagreements, there is a
loosely organised group of concerned Inquisitors
who are focused on finding out as much as they
can out about the Azure Covenant. Led by
Inquisitor Lord Berhad, this coven have been
probing into the actions of the Covenant both on
and off the battlefield. The disgrace of Lord Ira
and her sixty day visit has shown this group that
direct, official contact with the Azure Covenant
will be fruitless. The Omerta is all that outsiders
will encounter.
Therefore, the other forces that the Inquisition
can muster have been gathering like storm clouds
around the Azure Covenant. Inquisitorial-allied
Space Marine Chapters, such as the Executioners,
Exorcists and Minotaurs, are known to be
watching closely. On recent campaigns, forces of
the Exorcists have arrived at warzones where the
Covenant have been engaged. The intention of
these formations is not yet known.
Such attempts to encounter the Covenant
have, as yet, been unsuccessful. Through the use of
scrying, diviniation and other future-seeing
techniques, the Covenant has manage to avoid
most large-scale entanglements. However, it
would only appear to be a matter of time before
questions for the Covenant are asked at the point
of a bolt gun.
It is not clear how the Covenant will respond
to such threats ....
A unit of Hellblasters, accompanied by an Librarian Emeritus and an Athenaeum Sub-Provost, march past an ancient
Imperial shrine. W arpfire Aggressors support them from the rear of the column, ready to engage any enemies who

Never forget the trinity of the Covenant; Silence, Truth and Knowledge. Know each of
them in turn. Silence is the Omerta, and protects those from secrets that might well threaten
their very sanity. Truth is our method; through knowledge, books, experiments and all other
ways we can learn. Knowledge is our goal; for the only good is knowledge, and the only evil is
ignorance. We are surrounded by ignorance, and therefore we are surrounded by evil. It is our
job to bring the light of truth to the ignorant. Not the foolish who believe that religion is
truth, but facts and knowledge.

These are the three tenants of our Covenant, to last until the last of us are lost or slain.

PSYCHICOBLITERATION
There is no debate over the level of psychic mastery which the Azure Covenant can demonstrate. W hile some
first founding Chapters, such as the Blood Angels or Ultramarines, may claim to have more famous or powerful
psychic individuals, the sheer number and variety of powers which the Covenant manifests is almost unique in
the Imperium. W ith their stabilised gene-seed seeming to create even more psykers for each generation of
aspirants, it is believed by some in the Covenant that in a millennium or more, the Chapter could composed of
only psychically gifted marines and Initiates. Debate still rages over whether this could be the Covenants's
salvation, or their doom.
Before the battle, generate the psychic powers for PSYKERS that can use power from the Obliteratus and the Clipeum
discipline on the following tables. You can either roll a D6 to generate their powers randomly (re-roll any duplicate
results) or you can select the psychic powers you wish the psyker to have.

COMBATDOCTRINES
The tactics of the Azure Covenant are as unique as their chapters make-up and character. Decades
of study, of focused academic research and experimentation has led to the creation of the Liber
BellumOptiumi,. This keystone text of the tactics and strategies is the basis for the training of the
officers of the chapter. Azure Covenant commanders will use the general precepts of this manual
to guide their wars, seeking the best known path to victory.
Models in this unit gain a bonus depending on which combat doctrine is active (see below). If you have a
battle-forged army, only units benefit if every unit in your army uses this ability. Unless specified below
this bonus is not cumulative with other rules that alter the AP of a weapon.
At the start of the battle, the Tempestus Doctrine is active. A combat doctrine remains active for the
duration of the battle, , though you can change which combat doctrine is active at the start of each battle
round, as follows;

- If the Tempestus Doctrine was active in the previous rounds, you can change it so that the
Storm Doctrine is now active.

- If the Storm Doctrine was active in the previous rounds, you can change it so the Armis
Doctrine is now active.

78
THEPRIMOGENITORS
W hile the primogenitor of the Azure Covenant is the deepest secret of the Chapter, it is said that they
are not the first experiment involving the conversion of both men and women into Imperial space
marines.
Long studies by members of the Librarium have uncovered that there may have been a previous
chapter of Adeptus Astartes, named ?The Sisters of Purification.?This chapter, unlike the Covenant,
consisted of only female marines and is suspected to be operating sometime in M32-M33. W hat few
pic-captures of this Astartes force exist show a force equipped with Mark XI Corvus pattern white
power armour and wielding Umbra pattern bolters. This had led to some suggesting there could be a
link between the Raven Guard and the Sisters of Purification. However, many Codifiers have
dismissed this as fanciful.
As first-borne Astartes, rather than the newly created Primaris Marines, it is not certain how the
gene-seed of these marines was able to adapt to the bodies of this chapter?s marines. This has provided
another piece of evidence for the links between the Raven Guard, as the gene-seed of the former XIX
legion is famously unreliable. Perhaps the Sisters of Purification were an experiment to develop this
gene seed - but there is little evidence to prove this.
Some of the Librarium believe that this chapter was subjected to a partially effective W rit of
Obliteration, which has scoured much of the information of the Sisters of Purification from Imperial
records and official ecclesiarchy canon. W hat little is known has been pieced together by a senior circle
of the Azure Covenant, led by Chapter Regent Rachmeil herself.
The Sisters of Purification have a single confirmed combat action. The world of Lukaas was
threatened by warp-inspired sun-activity, and the Sisters of Purification were deployed on mass to the
hive-worlds move to purge the cult which controlled this activity. At the very height of this solar
flare, the Chapter engaging in brutal close-range fire with the enraged cult. Casualties, due to the cult?s
support with Jakero weaponsmiths, were high. High-powered laser fire cut down the Marines as they
prosecuted their desperate attack, trying to silence the warp-crafted machine before the solar power
could scour the surface of Lukaas. W ith the lives of over 2 billion Imperial servants in danger, Sister
Chonni hit the machine with a krak grenade. It exploded, and the threat was ended.
No-one knows how many of the Sisters died in this action, but there are only a few scattered
mentions of their chapter actions after this. Perhaps this great battle, saving so many lives, had done so
much damage that The Sisters of Purification were doomed to a slow extinction.
Nonetheless, the world of Lukaas was preserved for the Imperium for several millennium, before
being finally lost within the warp during the Hamlin Violation in M37. W ithout being able to examine
the evidence of the site, it is unlikely how much more the Azure Covenant will discover about this
fabled chapter of female Astartes.
