Student Response and Assessment Tools

Lesson Idea Name: Frogs Kahoot

Content Area: Science
Grade Level(s): 2nd
Content Standard Addressed: S2L1. Obtain, evaluate, and communicate information about the life cycles of
different living organisms.

Technology Standard Addressed: Digital Citizen: Students recognize the rights, responsibilities and
opportunities of living, learning and working in an interconnected digital world, and they act and model in
ways that are safe, legal and ethical.
2b: Students engage in positive, safe, legal and ethical behavior when using technology, including social
interactions online or when using networked devices

Selected Technology Tool:

☐ Socrative ☐ iRespond ☐ Quizlet ☐ Plickers ☒ Kahoot! ☐ Office365 Forms
☐ Other:

Technology that student will use to respond to questions/prompts:
☒ Computer ☐ Hand-held student response system (like iRespond) ☒ Phone ☒ Tablet (such as iPad)
☒ Other wireless device (such as iPod Touch)
Type of session:
☒ Teacher-Paced ☐ Student-Paced
Bloom’s Taxonomy Level(s):
☒ Remembering ☒ Understanding ☒ Applying ☐ Analyzing ☐ Evaluating ☐ Creating

Universal Design for Learning (UDL): This activity incorporates the UDL wheels by including the following:
• Providing images and visual representation of content
• Opportunities for review
• Activation of prior knowledge
• Web based application
• Promotes student interaction
• Engaging students
Describe the instructional activities that will occur PRIOR to the SRT activity and how you will introduce
the SRT activity.
Before we start this activity as a class, we will discuss information we have learned about frogs and their life
cycle. We will share one thing we have learned and what thing we still wonder about frogs and their life cycle.

Describe the purpose of the SRT activity (check all that apply):
☒ Assess prior knowledge ☒ Anticipatory set (Create interest in a topic) ☒ To illuminate common
misconceptions ☒ Formative assessment of content knowledge (for purpose of differentiation and
mastery for ALL students) ☐ Summative assessment of content knowledge ☒ Test preparation
☐ Survey/Poll ☒ Discussion starter ☐ “Homework” collection ☐ Other (please explain):

Briefly describe what will happen DURING the SRT activity:

Student Response and Assessment Tools
Students will open their Kahoot and sign in with their name on their mobile device, computer, or student
tablets to begin answering questions. The teacher makes sure that everyone is logged in and will monitor the
student’s interaction. The teacher will be able to see who is getting what questions correct and what
questions the class is missing the most. The end of the Kahoot will provide 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners and
the teacher will be able to determine what content needs to be revisited.
Type of questions/prompts used in this activity (check all that apply):
☐ Multiple choice ☐ Multiple select ☐ True/False ☐ Yes/No
☐ Short open-ended response or fill-in the blank ☐ Longer open-ended response

If you are unable to provide a working sample of your questions, please list them below (8-10): Link for
Kahoot provided.

Right/Wrong answers: Will there be right/wrong answers to these questions?

☒ Yes ☐ No
☐ Mixed (Some will have correct answers, other will not.)
Immediate corrective feedback: Will you pre-select correct answers to some of all of the questions and
display correct response to the class after the SRT activity?
☒ Yes
☐ No
Why or why not?
The teacher can provide discussion time about the correct answers with the students.
Describe what will happen AFTER the SRT activity?
After the activity the teacher will provide discussion time or the students to ask questions and provide clear
explanation of the question’s answers. The teacher will also be able to determine what material she needs to
revisit and adjust her lesson accordingly.
How will the data be used?
The data collected will be score from the activity questions and be used by the teacher only. The results will
guide the teacher’s lessons so they can adjust their lessons based on the results of the quiz. Teacher will also
use this information to see which students individually needs extra clarification. The results will be shared
with the students individually automatically from the Kahoot but will not be shared as a class. Th teacher will
discuss the results as a class not individually singling anyone out. The data will help develop future lessons
and help differentiate the lesson for the students who showed struggling test results. For example, if a
student didn’t get the first stage of the life cycle correct the teacher will revisit their teaching strategies for
that topic and differentiate a new way to re teach that lesson. Results will not be shared with parents unless
personally requested.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activityI am trying to use student response learning techniques
that I haven’t used to generate student engagement and participation in the class. I hope this will help
student apply knowledge in a fun interactive way.
Reflective Practice:
To further extend this lesson I would add more open-ended questions. I would also allow students to create
their own questions and add some of them to the Kahoot. I would also open it up for students to design and
create their own Kahoot review for the class to take. To add to this technology project, I would utilize and add
the premium version of the Kahoot. This addition provides the option for open-ended questions, puzzles and
polls.
