Honors Focus Area Reflection

1. Rank the Focus Areas in order of your current interest:

Research ____3_____

Design _____2____

Entrepreneurship ____4_____

Global Business/Operations ____5_____

Public Service _____1____

2. How did you decide which choice to rank as #1 above?

Because I am interested in all of these areas, but want to have the common thread of centering my
capstone on some social good, I picked public service to be my top choice. I care about a lot of issues
related to public service such as: climate change, campaign finance reform, education policy and
opportunity, voting rights, LGBTQ+ rights/women’s rights, criminal justice reform/ending mass
incarceration, ending poverty, ensuring quality healthcare for all people (including mental health
care), immigration reform and I want to try to figure out how I can apply my capstone (whether it be
design, research, or what) to one of these issues.

3. What Focus Area(s) would you like to learn more about?

I am interested in learning more about the entrepreneurship focus area, just because I think that is the
one I know the least about.

4. For your Honors Capstone Experience, would you prefer to write a thesis or complete a project with
a presentation? Why would you prefer one over the other?
I am not sure, I think a presentation would be nice so that I could actually talk to people about
what I’ve done and answer questions about it, but it would also be very nice to have a thesis to
show people when I’m applying other places.

5. Brainstorm 2-3 ideas for your Honors Capstone project. What type of project would be most
interesting to you? What sort of project/thesis experience would be beneficial to you in the future?
I think creating a hands on curriculum for a class or something related to making education
more accessible to kids would be cool, also researching how design impacts our perception of
the news. Also possibly how to connect formerly incarcerated people with
career/educational/mental health support opportunities, or researching ways to make voting
more accessible, making an app that connects you with people to practice a language you’re
learning.

App for remembering things.

- connects info to each other

Studying education

- how can we focus on quality not quantity
- how can we make a student feel in control of what they are learning?

- how to find get rid of the news that is not credible
