Jump In, Jump Out

This icebreaker is great for getting your group warmed up, both physically
and mentally! It activates listening and communication skills while letting
your group have fun and laugh at their own mistakes. You can also use this
activity to talk about prevention and healthy choices. As you engage in the
icebreaker, group members will likely find that it is easy to follow what the
person next to them says and does, even if that person is not following the
instructions. It takes focus, dedication and leadership to avoid negative peer
pressure and to choose to do the right thing, like saying no to drugs and
alcohol.

Time Needed: 10 minutes

Group Size: Any
Materials: None

Description & Directions: Have participants stand in a circle and hold hands.

Round One: Have participants repeat and do as you say. For example, say,
“jump in.” Participants will say “jump in” as they do so. Use the directions
jump in, jump out, jump right and jump left.
Round Two: Have participants say and do the opposite of what you say. For
example, say, “jump in.” Participants will say “jump out” as they do so.
Again, use the directions jump in, jump out, jump right and jump left.
Round Three: Have participants say what you say and do the opposite. For
example, say, “jump in.” Participants will say “jump in,” but actually jump
out. Use the directions jump in, jump out, jump right and jump left.
We hope you enjoy this activity and are able to use it to strengthen
conversations about prevention with your Youth Action Team or youth
organization!
Sarung Chain
Sarung Chain is an icebreaker game where participants have to attempt to
weave a Sarung through a series of connected bodies in the shortest time
possible.

Team Size

About 10 people or more, 2 groups

Materials Required

Two Sarung, one per group

Time Required

About 10 minutes

Instructions

1. The participants will stand in a circle and hold hands.

2. Then, the facilitator will place the Sarung on someone and the
objective is to pass the Sarung from the first person all the way to the
last person without breaking the hands link.
3. Each person will therefore have to try to move the Sarung without the
use of their hands; they have to move their whole body to get it from
their left side to their right (or vice versa).
4. The group which can finish the one round the fastest wins.

Debriefing Notes

If a group finishes too fast, they can try with 2 Sarung, or they can combine
groups to do the exercise one more time.
Clump It Up

1. Have your group stand at least five feet apart, so that arms are not
touching.

2. Tell them that you will be calling out a number and when you do so,
they are to find others and form a clump.

3. When you all out the number, you will call out one a least one number
less than the group’s total.

4. Someone will not be able to find a clump to join.

5. The left out person is out of the game.

6. Continue until you have a clump of two – the winners!
