Software Tools
Monitoring the earth for Stand-alone Recorders
Several software tools have been created for making simple, user friendly use of our passive
seismic tomography instruments. Based on years of field experience, we know that the field
operator needs easy of use software to provide detailed signal plots, basic signal processing,
instrument state of health plot, seismic signal quality check, thus making his fieldwork easier,
faster and more accurate. We know also that a lot of the time, the field operator has to work
under difficult conditions in difficult natural environments, so he needs to have a fast and
clear view of each instrument operation to assist with collection of high quality data.
Bearing all the above in mind, we have designed and implemented several easy to use
software tools for our instruments. The software tools help the operator carry out quick
checkups the seismic station during installation, check the sensor/digitizer tests as well as
post seismic station checks during the data retrieval / maintenance period.

The Datamonitor tool

The DataMonitor is a software tool that receives the
recorder’s real time datastream and plots it on the PC’s
screen. Each channel’s signal is plotted in a separate
window, in green, yellow, and red colors. The
DataMonitor provides several other options:
Zoom in/out in X and Y axis
Autoscale / manual scale plot
Remove DC function
State of health monitoring

The DataViewer tool

The Data Viewer is a software tool that plots the seismic data files of our
digitizers/recorders. The DataViewer tool provides several options:
·
· Detailed waveform seismic signal plot
· User friendly menu
· Zoom in/out in X and Y axis, or in selected area
· File header information plot
· Seismic data plot in HEX or DEC format
· Import data in other seismic formats (miniSEED, sac)
· Signal filtering (all file’s data or selected area’s data)
· Signal Spectrum plot (all file’s data or selected area’s data)
· Signal Processing (Pave, Save, coda)
· Quick seismic event analysis (magnitude, distance)
· Fully customizable window view
· Ability to Plot data in real time

The Helicorder tool
The Helicorder is a software tool that plots 24 hours of seismic data on the screen. Gives the operator a clear picture of the seismicity and
the noise at the installation site. The graph is read from left to right and top to bottom (this is the direction that time increases). As with
reading a book, the right end of any horizontal line "connects" with the left end of the line below it. By double-clicking on each trace, the
DataViewer opens the seismic signal automatically.

The DataConverter tool

DataConverter is a software tool that converts the CORE32 format seismic
data to other common seismic formats. The most common miniSEED and the
sac seismic formats are supported as well as ASCII format. Optionally, other
seismic formats can be included to the converter. The user has just to select
the source of the CORE32 data and it will automatically be converted into the
selected format. The converted data will be organized like the original,
keeping their folder form.
