INTRODUCTION
Fashion Design Technology explores the many
ways in which technology intersects with fashion
and textiles. This exciting field combines digital
and physical methods with applications in science,
sports, architecture, aerospace and other fields.
The Fashion Design Technology research group
studies the practices, skills and materials
associated with wearing the body. The context of
our research includes social, industrial and
technological innovations. Current focuses are:
generative and computer-aided methods for textile
design; animation performances and the
challenges of maintaining authenticity in virtual
spaces; and design using digital fabrication
techniques such as laser cutting, 3D printing, CNC
weaving, and 3D knitting. Researchers come from
backgrounds as diverse as anthropology, materials
science, data visualization, history, and biology.

SOFTWARE
Software is a set of instructions, data or programs used to
operate a computer and perform specific tasks. It is the
opposite of hardware, which describes the physical aspects
of a computer. Software is a generic term for applications,
scripts, and programs that run on a device. It can be thought
of as the variable part of the computer, while the hardware is
the immutable part.

The two categories of software are application software and

system software. An application is software that meets a
specific need or performs a task. System software is
designed to run a computer's hardware and provide a
platform on which applications can run.

HARDWARE
Hardware refers to the external and internal
devices and equipment that allow you to perform
important functions such as input, output,
storage, communication, processing, etc. There
are two types of computer hardware: external and
internal. External hardware devices include
monitors, keyboards, printers, and scanners, while
internal hardware devices include motherboards,
hard drives, and RAM

Computer hardware monitoring is important

because it provides critical insight into server
hardware health and performance. It can help
reduce system failures by identifying the root
cause of potential problems to keep system
hardware running smoothly.
TYPES OF
FASHION DESIGN
TECHNOLOGY
Computer-aided design/computer-aided
manufacturing (CAD/CAM) is a
combination of the terms CAD and CAM
to describe software for designing and
manufacturing prototypes, final
products, and series products. It provides
design through fabrication and is most
commonly used with CNC (Computer
Numerical Control) machines, which are
motorized, manipulable tools and
platforms that are controlled by a
computer according to specific
instructions. To better understand
CAD/CAM, below is a breakdown of each
term.
CAD
Software tools used by engineers,
architects, designers, and
draftsmen to create 2D and 3D
digital drawings to design various
objects and spaces. Computer
models are created and defined by
geometric patterns. CAD allows
designers to test objects by
simulating real-world conditions. It
can style anything from a simple
shampoo bottle to an intricate jet.
CAM
Use geometric design data to control
automated machines. These systems are
linked to CNC or DNC (Direct Numerical
Control) systems, both of which can
mechanically encode geometric data. The
main purpose of CAM is to create a faster
production process and allow components
and tooling to have precise dimensions and
material consistency.

When CAD and CAM are combined, a CNC machine can convert CAD into
a workpiece with CAM.

DIFFERENCES
BETWEEN

MAC AND PC
OPERATING SYSTEMS
KEYBOARD
The biggest difference is the
two keys on either side of the
space bar. On a PC, the key
closest to the space bar is
labeled Alt; the next one has a
windows logo. On a Mac, the
key closest to the space bar has
an icon (command) that looks
like a four-bladed propeller or
electric fan. These command
keys all have the same function.
Next is the options button.
TYPES
OF
TOOLS
scanner
A scanner is a device that captures images from
photographic prints, posters, magazine pages,
and similar sources for processing and display
by a computer. The process is performed by a
scan head that uses one or more sensors to
capture an image as light or electrical charge.
Document scanners move either the physical
document or the scan head, depending on the
scanner type. Scanners are usually connected to
a computer system and come with a scanning
software application that allows you to resize
and otherwise modify captured images
A device consisting of a light-tight chamber with
an aperture housing a lens
and a shutter through

which an image of an object is projected onto a

surface for recording (such as on light-sensitive
film or an electronic sensor) or by electrical
impulses conversion (as in television
broadcasting)

GRAPHIC
TABLET

A graphics tablet (also known as a digitizer, digital

graphics tablet, digital tablet, drawing tablet, external
drawing tablet, or digital drawing tablet) is a
computer input device that allows the user to draw
images, animations, and graphic gestures with special
hand, Using a pen-like stylus is much like a person
drawing with a pencil and paper. These tablets can
also be used to capture data or handwritten
signatures. It can also be used to trace an image from
a piece of paper taped or otherwise attached to the
tablet surface. Capturing data in this way by tracing
or typing on the corners of a linear polyline or shape
is called digitizing.
A printer is a device that accepts text files or images
from a computer and transfers them to a medium
such as paper or film. It can be connected directly to
the computer or indirectly via a network. Printers are
classified as impact printers (in which the print
medium is physically struck) and non-impact printers.

Non-imprint printers fall into three main categories:

laser printers use a laser beam to draw toner onto an
area of paper, ink-jet printers spray jets of liquid ink
and thermal printers transfer wax-based ink or use
heated pins to print images directly onto specially
treated paper.

PRINTER
STORAGE

.Storage is a mechanism that allows a computer to

retain data temporarily or permanently. Storage
devices such as flash drives and hard drives are an
essential part of most digital devices as they allow
users to store a variety of information such as videos,
documents, images and raw data.
DIGITAL
TRANSFER
A digital transfer is a way

of producing full colour
designs, which are too complex to be screen printed,
for application onto garments, caps or bags via a heat
process. The required image is printed onto white
transfer paper and then cut out with a plotter, which
is a machine that cuts through paper following an
outline drawn in Adobe Illustrator.

he transfer paper is then placed onto the object. The

correct amount of heat & pressure is then applied.
This is a precise process which ensures there is no
damage to the surface of the product. The image then
adheres permanently to the object.
DIGITAL
PAINTING
.Digital painting is a full-fledged artistic medium, often
combining a computer, graphics tablet, and software
of your choice. Artists paint and draw using the pens
included with the tablet to create 2D paintings in
digital art software. Digital artists use a variety of
techniques and tools, the first being digital brushes.
These come standard with all digital art programs, but
users can create their own by changing their shape,
texture, size, and rendering.
Adobe Illustrator, a computer graphics application
software from Adobe Inc., that allows users to
create complex drawings, designs, and layouts.
Released in 1987, Illustrator was one of many Adobe
innovations that revolutionized graphic design.

PHOTOSHOP
Adobe Photoshop is software commonly used for
raster image editing, graphic design, and digital art. It
uses layering to allow depth and flexibility in the
design and editing process, and provides powerful
editing tools to combine almost anything.
