requirements for safety and loss prevention as prescribed by NFPA
Codes and the Qatar Civil Defense Department fire safety
requirements. It is the objective of this document to ensure that
safe design is achieved and to minimize the risk of injury to
personnel, loss or damage to property and structures and pollution
to the environment.
B. Adequate Portable fire extinguishers shall be installed in Villa’s, Club
house, Guard room, Pump room, substations and areas wherever
required is in accordance with NFPA 10. Fire blanket shall be

requirements of NFPA 13, NFPA 14 and local Qatar civil defense

requirements.

STORAGE CAPACITY SHALL BE DETERMINED BASED ON THE PUMP

FLOW RATE:-

1) Total Demand as per HASS Calculations = 1861.4 LPM = 490

GPM
Therefore, flow rate of the selected Fire Pump = 500 GPM
2) As per NFPA13 the Water Supply Duration Requirements for
Hydraulically Calculated Systems = 60 minutes (Minimum)
(Refer: Attachment A).
3) Hence, Calculation shall be as follows :
Fire water storage tank capacity = 500 GPM X 60
minutes

= 30,000 Gallons
= 113.56 m3

Say =114 m³
4) Total Number of Fire Tank considered = 2
5) Therefore, Required Mean Effective Capacity Each Tank =
114 m³ ÷ 2 = 57 m³
6) So, Designed Fire Water Tank Capacity :-
Fire Water Tank-1 (Underground)
= 4.8m (L) x 5.5m (W) x 2.9m (H)
= 76.56 m³
Fire Water Tank-2 (Underground)
= 4.8m (L) x 5.5m (W) x 2.9m (H)
= 76.56 m³
7) Therefore Total volume of the Designed Fire Water Tank
= 153.12 m³

VIII. FUEL (DIESEL) SUPPLY TANK CAPACITY CALCULATION :-

As per NFPA 20, Fuel supply tank shall have a capacity at least
equal to 1 gallon per HP (5.07L per KW), plus 5 percent volume for
expansion and 5 percent volume for sump.
Fire Pump Capacity = 40 KW
Fuel supply tank capacity = 40 x 5.07L = 203 Litres
+ 5 percent volume for expansion = 0.05 x 203 L = 10.15 Litres
Project: PROPOSED VIILA
COMPOUND AT WAKRA DESIGN REVIEW APPD
CLIENT: SHK.AHMED SAIF AND
JON MP MP
PARTNERS

+ 5 percent volume for sump = 0.05 x 203 L = 10.15 Litres

Therefore the required Fuel Supply Tank capacity
= 203+10.15+10.15L = 223.3 Litres
Proposed Fuel Supply Tank capacity = 59 Gallons
Therefore selected Fuel Tank Capacity = 70 Gallons
So Double Wall Diesel Fuel Tank of size Ø 610mm x 915mm (L) is
proposed.

IX. CONCLUSION FROM THE HYDRAULIC CALCULATION:-

Total demand for the ordinary hazard = 1861.4 LPM at 6 bar

Therefore, the selected pump is 500 GPM at 6 bar
