Minutes Call to Order Meeting was called to order by President Debbie Thomason at 11:05 am. It is to be noted that November is the last month for attendance for grant-seeking purposes (minimum of 6 meetings between December 2009 and November 2010). September Minutes were approved upon move and second by Steve Patz and Debbie Marsh-Niccum Youth Steve Patz spoke of the Prevent Child Abuse presentation at the Lunch with Dads with approximately 200 males (adults or children) in attendance, or about 50% of the K – 5 student body. This event was co- sponsored by the PCA and the PTO. PCA also gave out cookies. Debbie Thomason spoke of the Red Ribbon Week with a balloon launch set for Friday October 29 th at 1:00 pm. Furthermore, she was working on K-2 bulletin board contest, 3-5 poster contest, and a 6 – 12 poem/essay contest with an Honor Banquet to be determined. The Them,e for the Red Ribbon Week is “No! Not Me! I’m Drug Free” Regional Report Kim Linkel is planning to work today on part of the Work Plan. Also K-2 Spice is still being sold and attracting attention. Many counties in Indiana are working on ordinances against it and similar drug-like substances. Old Business D.U.M.P. sponsored by the Extension Office will be held October 28 th. S.E.I. Solid Waste District’s Aaron bell is also collecting drugs at the Police Department periodically also. New Business Donita Valentine has created a letter regarding K-2 Spice being sold at the Rising Sun BP Station. An editorial was also in the local paper recently. The letter was passed around for signatures by the membership. Dottie McKinley suggested that a similar letter should be sent to the Shell Station as well. Janie Eldridge and Donita Valentine had made a visit to both stores recently asking about the K-2 Spice. Shell acted very hesitant about it when asked but would not admit they had it. The BP Station stated theirs was in a lockbox and Jay stated that only 18 and over could purchase it. A little later the cashier told then she would sell it to anyone. Steve Patz made a motion to have Debbie Thomason send a generic letter to the city and county representatives asking for an ordinance prohibiting the sale of K-2 and other substances here. Seconded by Dottie McKinley. Motion carried. Work Plan In order to be more specific in the opening statement, part of the statement was re-written as follows: “Alcohol is a substance that continues to be used and abused in Ohio County on a regular basis.” Also added was the following: “Legal stimulants are a substance that continues to be used and abused on a regular basis at a high rate in Ohio County” Announcements Big Brothers/Big Sisters had 105 people at their Fall Festival. A Halloween Party is scheduled for October 23 from 8 to midnight at Willie’s. Lifestyle Risk Reduction to be held at the Education Center on Thursday November 4 beginning at 9 am. Horsefeathers is a therapeutic center for handicapped children. It is also a meeting place for Teen AA and NA. On November 6 they will be having at Friendship a Fund Raiser Walk $12 or a Trail Ride $15 with Dinner and Music. Denver Siekman Environmental Park will be hosting bluegrass music and a chili supper as a fund raiser Friday November 5 starting at 6 pm. Denver Siekman Environmental Park will also be hosting another Mystery Dinner theater on Saturday November 6 starting at 6 pm.
