Introduction to Prayatna Foundation

Prayatna Foundation is a Not for Profit Organization, incorporated with the aim of giving back to the community, a part of
what has been acquired in one’s lifetime. All our adult lives we learnt to complete, control and collaborate to live a better
life, but every little thing we acquire or accomplish should be given back to the society in whatever fraction possible.
Prayatna is more of a life style choice of all its members. In the name of philanthropy, charity or community service we are
just fulfilling our responsibilities towards the surroundings we are living in.

Holistic initiatives:
Prayatna Foundation works for minimizing social injustice towards women and children by strengthening the three major
aspects:

 Shiksha (education)
 Shakti (Women Empowerment)
 Swasthya (Health)

Shiksha (education)

Under the vertical of education, Prayatna has adopted Nandipur Swami Vivekananda Vidyamandir, at Jessore road
established in the year 1974. What used to be a hut based structure with no facilities back in 2015 was transformed into a
G+1 building with basic amenities of a school. It provides primary education with supplementary nutrition to the children
between the age group of 3-11 years. The primary objective of the project is to impart basic education to all those who
deserve but have been deprived due to the socio economic limitations around them.

Shakti (women empowerment)

Prayatna has taken a stand to empower women by imparting digital literacy training along with communicative English. In
the intervention area, most of the women work as domestic help. This sector of work is not only unorganized but very
much physical labor intensive. This particular type of work invites social stigma, discrimination and never enables workers
to command respect. The platform of digital literacy is the first step to prepare the women workforce in the community to
prepare themselves for skill training and employable.

Swasthya (health)

Prayatna Foundation is working on developing a sustainable health check up system across West Bengal. Pilot project has
already been rolled out at specific locations creating a footprint of more than 280 candidates. These initiatives are geared
up for expansion in upcoming months with a range of 10+ health camps across West Bengal every month.

CSR Implementation in association with BNI:

Prayatna is willing to come on board as a common NGO Partner for all its 22 Chapters based in Kolkata.

Our idea of social work here is slightly different from what we usually do. Most of us make this mistake of linking
social work and the underprivileged. Feeding some orphans on a holiday or a birthday does not really fulfill our
responsibility towards our surroundings. There are so many issues that need awareness and are spread across the
elite and the middle class societies as well. So why not try to fight that.

Very basic idea of keeping a city clean, needs to be communicated through the Prime Minister of the Country
because we lack awareness and are still ignoring the seriousness of situations. This is just one of many examples we
are surrounded with on a day to day basis and our idea is to bring about that change by bringing small changes in
our day to day habits and spreading awareness at different levels.

Let us try to do a different kind of social work here. Let us promote the idea of every individual’s responsibility
towards their surroundings and understand the uniqueness of this term.

We are all capable of working with both, the privileged and the under privileged and revolutionize the usage of
very term “Social Work” or “Social Responsibility”. Let us bring a balance to this and work with those who need
along with those who “have”.

Why BNI?

Business is one area, where every individual thinks of self before others. BNI has transformed the very concept
where every member is always keen on giving a co-member business and in return is taken care of by other
member.

If something as self centered as business can be transformed here, we are talking social work which is already
selfless and needs good hands.

Looking forward to hear from you soon.
