 Sierra Burgess is a Loser

Sierra Burgess Is a Loser is an American teen comedy-drama film directed by

Ian Samuels. The film was released on September 7, 2018, by Netflix. The film is a

modern retelling of the Cyrano de Bergerac story, and stars Shannon Purser as

Sierra, Kristine Froseth as Veronica, RJ Cyler as Dan, and Noah Centineo as

Jamey. Sierra has pretty much lived her life knowing she isn’t like the Veronicas of

the world. Despite how skinny and petite her mom Jules is, she is the opposite. She

is tall, has meat on her bones, and gets teased at school by nearly everyone her age

but her best friend Dan. Yet, when one of her biggest bullies gives her phone

number, from her tutoring flier, to a boy named Jamey, she finds momentary bliss. A

hot guy, who through texts and phone calls, seems to genuinely like her. However,

there comes the issue of wanting to face time and go on dates. Leading to Sierra,

thanks to movie magic, befriending her enemy and elongating the ruse. But, with

Veronica having a troubling romantic life, and home life to boot, and Jamey sweet as

can be, there seems to be a momentary lapse in remembering she is helping Sierra

and not dating the boy herself. And with that lapse, Sierra goes insane for a second

and yet finds herself, with a simple song, “Sunflower” healing all wounds and strife.

I like this film because there is a lot of good points here but you have to

suspend your sense of disbelief to the point you have to consider this fantasy. Not

because of a guy like Jamey liking Sierra, but because of how we get to the point of
him liking her specifically and not her person with Veronica’s face and body. The

movie contains a lot of good message and the plot is unique.

 Princess Diaries

The Princess Diaries is a 2001 American teen comedy film produced by Walt

Disney Pictures and directed by Garry Marshall. The film was written by Gina

Wendkos and stars Anne Hathaway as Mia and Julie Andrews as Clarisse, with a

supporting cast consisting of Héctor Elizondo as Joe, Heather Matarazzo as Lily,

Mandy Moore as Lana, Caroline Goodall as Helen and Robert Schwartzman as

Micheal. Mia Thermopolis is the average teenager - sweet, a little geeky and pretty

much invisible to everyone with the exception of her mother, best friend Lilly and

Lilly's older brother Michael. Making it through high school without throwing up is a

challenge in itself for Mia, so it doesn't come as welcome news when her estranged

grandmother shows up out of the blue and calmly informs her that she is in fact the

heir to the throne of a European country called Genovia. Suddenly Mia's life is

thrown into complete overload. She's being taught about scarves, waves and pears

in order to become a perfect princess, she gets a makeover and a tough looking yet

sweet bodyguard/limo driver called Joe. Things get out of hand when the media gets

a hold of the story and suddenly Mia is thrust into the spotlight in both the

newspapers and in school. On top of all that Mia has a choice to make. She must

decide by Genovia's Independence Day Ball whether she longs to relinquish her

claim on the throne or to become the princess and heir to the throne her father and

grandmother want her to be.

I like this film because of the personality of the main casts especially Mia’s.

The story is unique and you get to see the life of being a princess. It is enjoyable

watching the character development of every cast. I like watching teen comedy films

because they are fun to watch. Throughout the story it somehow teaches a few life

lessons along the way.

 50 First Dates

50 First Dates is a 2004 American romantic comedy film directed by Peter

Segal and starring Adam Sandler as Henry, Drew Barrymore as Lucy, Rob

Schneider as Ula, Sean Astin as Doug, Blake Clark as Marlin, and Dan Aykroyd as

Dr. Keats. Henry Roth lives in a Hawaiian paradise with the company of endless

women with no strings attached. This is until he meets Lucy Whitmore. Both Henry

and Lucy enjoy the company of each other and feel the start of a serious relationship

occurring. Approaching Lucy the next day, Henry is confused when Lucy fails to

recognize him. This is the moment Henry discovers that Lucy actually suffers from

short term memory loss and can't remember each individual day. Henry won't let this

stop him and is prepared to make her fall in love with him all over again, each and

every day.

I like this film because I am a big fan of romantic comedies. The storyline is

unique and the idea itself. One of my favorite unwind films. I love the silly story, the

cast work together magically and they really enjoyed making this film so the

chemistry is there. The soundtrack is adorable and ironic. The film displays that you

can do anything for love and the heart remembers what the mind can't.
