1.Introduction
1.1 About this Report

This report has been prepared for the purpose of Design Approval and submission
to Itahari Submetropolitan City This report deals about a Mixed Type Building at
itahari submetropolitan ward no 06 .This Report has been prepared by dedicated
team of our firm under the guidance of experiance Eengineer. This report deals
with methodology of the structural analysis and design of a Building and its
results. This report includes different parameters for the analysis and design of the
structure. The design results are shown in a very convenient tabular format in the
report. The results of calculation are presented in tabular form and sample
calculations are provided in details to reduce the bulkiness of the report. Sufficient
figure and sketches have been introduced to illustrate the theories. Reference to
the appropriate clauses of standard codes of practices has been made wherever
necessary. It is clear that for understanding the process physically and realizing
the structure behaviour, manual steps by steps procedure is necessary. However
due to the time constraint and to be familiar to the modern technology.

1.2.Objective
* To achieve a practical knowledge on structural analysis, design and detailing of
structural components using principles of Earthquake resistant design
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:

* Modeling of the building for structural analysis.

* Sectional design and structural detailing of the members.

1.3 Analysis procedure

The structure has been modelled, analysed and designed in a computer software
“ETABS 2015 Advanced version”. The software has very good analysis and design
capability which are verified in the verification problems included in the package. It
is a Finite Element Method (FEM) based software and requires modelling of the
structure by finite-elements. Beams and columns are modelled with line (or frame)
elements, while the slabs and roofs are modelled with area-elements. This project
enabled us to acquire knowledge on proper analysis and design of building for
earthquake safety including the capability of solving and tackling the field problem
to somewhat. It has taught us to work in team which will surely help us in the
future to come.

5.Design of structural elements
6.Limit state design using above mentioned codes.
5.0 Design
The concrete structures are designed using Limit State Method which is
incorporated in IS456:2000.
It is based on safety and serviceability requirements associated with the design

loads and design strengths of the materials. These design loads and design

strengths are obtained by applying partial safety factors for characteristic loads

and strengths of the materials as concrete and steels. The limit state method of

design covers different criteria for design. The two major criteria are
a. Limit State of Collapse:
The limit state of collapse of the structure or part of the structure could be
assessed from rupture of one or more critical sections and from buckling due to
elastic or plastic instability (including effects of sway where appropriate) or
overturning. The resistance to bending, shear, torsion and axial loads at every
section shall not be less than the appropriate value at that section produced by
the probable most unfavourable combination of loads on the structure using the
appropriate partial safety factors.
b. Limit State of Serviceability:
It includes limit for deflection and cracking or local damage. Excessive deflection

and cracks adversely affects the finishes, efficiency and appearance of the

structure and it may impair protection to embedded reinforcements too.

Cracking Limit state: the surface width of the cracks should not, in general, exceed

0.3mm in members where cracking is not harmful and does not have any serious

adverse effects upon the preservation of the reinforcing steel nor upon the

durability of the structure.

Deflection limit states for concrete members are:
i. The final deflection due to all loads including the effects of temperature,
creep and shrinkage and measured from the as-cast level of the supports of
floors, roofs and all other horizontal members, should not normally exceed
ii. The deflection including the effects of temperature, creep and shrinkage
occurring after erection of partitions and the application of finishes should not
normally exceed span/350 or 20mm whichever is less.
6. Conclusions
This project is the result of group effort of whole group’s member and the .The
project work enables us to consolidate the knowledge of analysis and design of
structure
Since the project site is located at most prone zone to earthquake, we have given
more emphasis on earthquake load rather than others. The seismic coefficient
method is used to analysis the building due to more practicable and easy. ETABS

provided to be helpful tools in the analysis of frame for various loading condition.

In the project, the analysis, design and detailing of all require element of building

were done based on 3-D frame analysis by ETABS.

Detail structural design of building is important aspect of construction procedure.

Practically an engineer employed must have knowledge on designs, construction

procedures, site study etc. Design and layout of the building services like pipeline,

electrical appliances, sanitary and sewage system were not covered in this project.

The environmental, social and economical condition of the locality was not taken

into consideration. The project work was only related with the Structural analysis

of building. Detail cost estimate of the project was not included in this report.

Finally we hope that efforts and coordination for the project work will prove much

useful in our career and project will be helpful in providing information on the

earthquake resistant design and its safe practice and we hope, this project will

help us in similar jobs that we might have in our hands in the future.
