To illustrate the importance of transportation in our nation life, identify a

transportation related article that appears in a local newspaper. Discuss the issue
involved and explain why the item was newsworthy.
Based on the article with the title of “The Philippine government and the new
phase of public transport,” it highlighted the importance of transportation in the
Philippines. The article stated that the public transport has evolved. Transport Network
Companies, or TNCs, offered services that allowed commuters to use their smartphones
to get a ride, be picked up from their location, travel point-to-point and pay a reasonable
amount for the service. However, the government or LTFRB says it still has a lot to learn
about the technology to properly regulate it. Recalling the earlier days of Grab
Philippines, Grab country head Brian P. Cu said “the Philippine market was
unwelcomingThe importance of transport can be seen clearly from the development,
measurements and trends and the growth of communities, particularly urban centres.
Certain services including water availability played an important role.

2. Estimate the proportion of your monthly budget that is spent in transportation.

Mode of Transportation Expenses

Tricycle 360.00
Jeepney 162.00
LRT from Roosevelt to Central 540.00
Total 1,062.00

3. Cite at least three department/agency that demonstrate the importance of

transportation in the Philippines.
 LTO - The Land Transportation Office (LTO), a sectoral agency of the Department
of Transportation (DOTr) by virtue of Executive Order (E.O) No. 125 and 125A
dated 13 April 1987 and E.O No. 226 dated 25 July 1987, is tasked to register motor
vehicles, issue driver's/conductor's licenses and permits, enforce transporation laws,
rules and regulations and adjudicate apprehension cases.
 LTFRB – Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board is a sectoral
agency of the Department of Transportation (DOTr) which is mandated under the law
to regulate land-based public transportation, and to safeguard the welfare and interests
of the commuting public
 PPA – Philippine Ports Authority is the primary government agency concerned with
the planning and development of the country's seaports.
4. Cite the importance of transportation in:

 Economics - includes the production, distribution and consumption of goods and

services. People depend on their natural resources to meet living requirements, but the
gap in standard of life in different societies is important due to the non-uniform
surface area and variations in local resources
 Politics - The government of the region must be in a place to send / get details about
its residents. It can include rules, protection and other details necessary to build
knowledge. The way government will effectively communicate this knowledge to all
people relies in large measure on the efficient administration of a nation. However, its
importance is slightly reduced with the emergence of communications.
 Environment - Sound is acoustic energy that vibrates or passes through the
environment when noise is created by unexpected vibrations. The transport system,
especially in urban areas is a significant contributor to noise emissions. During
construction and service noise is produced. Operating large equipment during
renovation makes the area tremendous noise. During activity, aerodynamics and the
interaction of the car and the support system (road-track, rail-wheel) are created by
engine and car exhaust systems, noise. There is proof that prolonged listening to
intense sound induces physical and psychological harm. Furthermore, the vibration
causes mental stress and fatigue owing to its disruption.
 Education - In a student's daily life always the role of transport plays a crucial role.
An effective transport system can make life easier for a student. Poor travel services
will have negative effects on the life of a college. There is also definitely a cause of
concern for both parents and officials in the transportation of children.

5. Determine the number of home-to-work, home-to-nonwork, and non-home-based

trips attracted to a zone with the following characteristics.
Home-to-work trips attracted to zone:
Total employee ∈zone
= [ Home−¿−work trips ∈study area ] × [ Total employee∈study area ]
Total employees in zone:
= [ Retail employeement ] + [ Non−retail employeement ]
= 50+820
= 870

Total employees in study area:

= [ Retail employeement ] + [ Non−retail employeement ]
= 5,502+27,324
= 32,826
Home-to-work trips attracted to zone:
870
= 36,680 × [
32,826 ]
= 972 trips

Home-to-nonwork:

Visiting friends:
Total dwelling units∈ zone
= 0.10 × [ Total home−¿−nonwork trips ] × [ Total dwelling units∈ study area ]
Total dwelling units in study area:
= [ Single−family housing units ] + [ Apartment units ]
= 15,675+7,567
= 23,242

Visiting friends:
800
= 0.10 ×174,933 × [ 23,242 ]
= 602 trips

Shopping:
Total retail employee ∈zone
= 0.6 × [ Total home−¿−nonwork trips ] × [ Total retail employee∈study area ]
50
= 0.6 ×174,933 × [ 5,502 ]
= 954 trips

School:
School attedance∈ zone
= 0.10 × [ Total home−¿−nonwork trips ] × [ School attendance∈ study area ]
0
= 0.10 ×174,933 × [ 28,551 ]
= 0 trips

Non−retail employee∈ zone

Non−retail employment=0.20 × [ Total home−¿−nonwork trips ] × [ Non−retail employee ∈study area ]
820
Non−retail employment=0.20 ×174,933 × [ 27,324 ]
¿ 1,050 trips

Total number of home−¿−nonwork trips∈ zone=[ Visiting friends ] + Shopping+ School+ [ Non−retail employment
Non−retail employee ∈zone
Non−retail employment=0.60 × [ Total non−home based trips ] × [ Non−retail employee∈study area ]

Non−retail employment=0.60 ×70,537 × [ 27,324 ]
¿ 1,270 trips
