Heat energy Hot objects e.g cooker Light energy Luminous objects e.g sun, fire, litcandle Sound energy Vibrating objects e.g vibrating skin of a drum Electrical energy Electrical devices such as computer chemical energy Stored in food, coal, gas, batteries, electric cells Kinetic energy Moving objects e.g a moving vehicle Potential energy Energy stored in raised object, stretched or compressed object.
Two common types of potential energy are:
(1) Elastic potential energy which is the energy stored in
stretched or compressed elastic objects such as springs
(2) Gravitational potential energy which is the energy
stored in objects raised above the ground. Energy conversion
The law of conservation of energy states that energy can neither be created nor destroyed but can only be converted from one form into another. Examples of energy conversion
1. An electric iron converts electrical energy into heat
2. Gas cooker converts chemical energy into heat 3 . A lighting lamp converts electrical energy into heat and light 4. A t.v set converts electrical energy into heat, light and sound. 5. When a moving car stops, kinetic energy is converted into heat. 6.When a plane is lifting off, chemical energy is converted into kinetic energy and potential energy. 7. When a girl bends a plastic ruler, chemical energy is converted into elastic potential energy. 8. In photosynthesis, light energy is converted into chemical energy.
