Precautions to be taken to obtain accurate results:
1) The stone should be lowered into the water by means
of a piece of thread to avoid splashing of water
2) Parallax error is avoided by placing the eye at the same
horizontal level as the lower meniscus.
3) The stone should be completely below water.
