10.0 Summary 28
This submission contains the design of substructure with MONO PILE foundation for Pier group Containing piers LP1 to
LP4 on North side towards Ajmer region at proposed Widening of Ajmer Pulia of Contract JP/EW/C2.
Each piers from LP1 to LP4 consists of two piers in transverse direction.
The columns at road level and ground level are connected with each other with road level beam and plinth beam respectively.
The super-structure consists of 450mm thick solid slab supported on Road level beams of size 1200mm x 1000mm and
existing retaining towards south side.
The size of plinth beam is 750mm x 900mm in Longitudinal direction and 750mm x 750mm in Transverse direction.
Monopile of 1000mm dia is proposed with 1.3 x 1.3 m Pilecap above pile and column of 900mm x 900mm over pilecap.
Details as Follows,
The pier supports the proposed widening of the solid approach at the ajmer pulia region, to incorporate additional
2 lane (Width 8.40m). Maximum deck slab width = 10.235m
2.1 ) The design has been carried generally in accordance with the design loadings as per IRC 6.2010.
2.2 ) The columns are connected with road level beam and plinth beam at road level and ground level respectively in
Longitudinal direction & in transverse direction, hence the mono pile is restrained in both direction.
Hence the pile is considered as fixed head pile in both Longitudinal and Transverse direction.
2.3 ) Depth of fixity for fixed head pile are done as per (IS 2911/Part I/Sec-2/Ament.3/Appendix-C/Cl.5.5.2)
presented in Appendix C.
2.4 ) The design approach is to consider substructure subjected to both static loading ( due to dead loads, SIDL,
loads due to live load etc. and dynamic loads due to siemic activity.
2.5) The seismic analysis is carried as per IRC :6 -2000 / Modified cl. 222.
2.6 ) The piles & column & beam are modelled as line element.
2.7 ) The structure with column & mono pile with fixed support at pile fixity level is analysed in 'STAAD-Pro' software
The DL & SIDL over deck are applied over Longitudinal beam per metre and LL are applied as point load
at column top.
The loads are combined in the software to get the SLS loads. This is explained in detail at respective place in
STAAD file.
2.8 ) The time period and spectral acceleration Sa/g value for calculating the Earthquake force is obtained
from STAAD Analysis which is shown in Appendix F.
2.10) The earthquake forces for all members are calculated individually and are lumped on member as member force
for DL & SIDL and for LL, forces are lumped at column top .
2.11) The piles are then designed for all load combinations in the ' OASYS' software.
2.12) Concrete grade M45 for pier & Road level beam & M35 for Piles & pilecap.
2.13) Pile lengths are calculated as per soile investigation test report no .SR-38_11-12 (Pat 7) near NRP-111.
prepared by CEG Test house, Jaipur.
2.14) Due to slenderness of column, stresses of concrete and steel are reduced as per IRC21-2000 which is
presented in Appendix D.

5.0 ) Assumptions :
Following assumption are made in this submission which will be updated as per detailed design
of these elements.
6.4) Loading :
6.4.1Dead Loads
Load of slab on Beam B1 = 29 kN/m (Ref Appendix A)
Load of slab on Beam B2 = 76 kN/m (Ref Appendix A)
Load of slab on Retaining wall = 10 kN/m (Ref Appendix A)
Wt. of Pilecap +soil (RHS Pilecap) = Area = 1.69 x 1.50 x 25 = 80 kN
+ Area = 1.69 x 0.50 x 20
Wt. of Pilecap +soil (LHS Pilecap) = 1.30 x 1.30 x 1.50 x 25 = 80 kN
+ 1.30 x 1.30 x 0.50 x 20
Beam size = 1.20 x 1.00
Self weigth of portal girder = 1.20 x 1.00 x 25 = 30 kN/m
6.4.2Super-Imposed dead load ( SIDL ) SIDL is due to wearing coat of thickness of = 106 mm
Load of wearing coat over slab on Beam B1 = 6 kN/m (Ref Appendix A)
Load of wearing coat over slab on Beam B2 = 16 kN/m (Ref Appendix A)
Load of wearing coat over slab on retaining wall = 2 kN/m (Ref Appendix A)
2
Area of Crash barrier = 0.33 mm /m
SIDL Load due to crash barrier on Beam B1 ( 0.330 x 25.00 ) = 8 kN/m
SIDL Load due to crash barrier on Beam B2 ( 0.330 x 25.00 ) x 2 = 17 kN/m
The precast slab is resting on beam frame in longitudinal and transverse direction. The slab is considered spanning in transverse direction.
The Live Load on slab will be tranferred to longitudinal beam i.e. B1 & B2.
Since the live load has been applied directly over the column arrangement in the staad model, there is a need for reduction of the reaction &
moment due to live load, since the vehicle axle will actually be placed at a distance from the crash barrier, as shown in Fig 1A to 1D.
The Live Load with reduction factor for design of Longitudinal beam, column, pilecap and monopile will be applied in STAAD Pro.
The Load on beam B1 (Towards North side) can be maximum when the vehicle will be at minimum distance from North side parapet wall.
The Load on beam B2 (Towards South side) can be maximum when the c.g. of load of vehicle will be on beam.

The maximum vertical load and maximum braking force from all live load case is considered for earthquake and
substructure calcuation. From above, governing live load case is 1 Lane Class - 70R(W)
In order to get time period, the pier with loads at portal girder top is modelled in STAAD. The analysis is presented in APPENDIX-F.
From the analysis, the time period obtained in longitudinal & transverse direction are as follows :
Time period in longitudinal direction = 0.37 sec => Sa/g = 2.50
Time period in transverse direction = 0.55 sec => Sa/g = 2.50
The slab is resting on beam in longitudinal directon on North side and simply resting on existing retaining wall .
The vertical load from slab will be tranferred to both ends. i.e. on Longitudinal beam on North side and retaining wall.
But the lateral forces will be resisted by beam (B2) on north side.
Additional Dead load on pier top = = 10 kN/m
Additional SIDL (due to wearing coat) on pier top = = 2 kN/m

The pH value of the soil samples collected from boreholes is varying from
7.81 to 9.00 which is within the range of permissible limit. The sulphate and
chloride content of soil are less than 0.005 %.
WATER TABLE
Water table was not encountered during the field investigation.
8. ALLOWABLE BEARING PRESSURE
Allowable bearing pressure is the minimum of the safe net bearing capacity
(determined from considerations of shear failure) and safe bearing pressure
(determined from considerations of permissible settlement).

capacity using shear failure criterion as per IS:6403-1981 for checking
the safety of the foundations against shear failure.
The Axial load carrying capacity of Pile is determined as per IRC- 78: 2000
appendix-5. The safe load carrying capacity of piles has been worked out on
as per clause 709.3.2 of IRC 78: 2000. The final design of pile foundations, the

SUBSTRUCTURE ANALYSIS
166 of 226
The piles & columns & beams are modelled as line element.
Member no. 101 201 301 401 501 601 701 801 represents the pile, member 102 202 302 402 502 602 702 802 represents
pilecap depth, member 103 203 303 403 503 603 703 803 represents column, member 104 204 304 404 504 604 704 804
represents the half Road level beam depth, member 1 to 10 represents road level beam connecting pier at pier top level and
member 21 to 30 represents plinth beam connecting piers at pilecap top level.
Concrete grade M50 for pier & M35 for Piles & pilecap.
Load due to self wt of U-girder/I-girder, SIDL and liveload is applied on the respective nodes and members.
Self wt. of Beams, pier & pile will be calcualted by the software.
The structure with column & mono pile with fixed support at pile fixity level is analysed in 'STAAD-Pro' software.
Load case 2 specify SIDL, which are applied at respective node and member.
Load case 3 specify Live loads (vehicle load) i.e. vertical load including impact factor, braking force when both lane & all
span are loaded. The reaction found in Appendix B and braking force are applied as point load at pier top nodes.
The loads are then combined in Staad file with appropriate load factors for SLS conditions.
