Assignment 1
You are required to do both parts A and B of assignment 1

Part A

Group assignment and presentation (20 marks)

1. Working in your group, go through the case studies at least twice and make
notes of the key points of the case study.

2. Read the module notes and identify any parts of the notes which are
reinforced by the case study.

3. For the feedback session, you will become the teachers for your particular
case study topic. Prepare a 10 minute group presentation to the class using
power point and notes, which include;

i a summary of the overall message of the case study.

ii a description of the key theoretical points contained in the case study.

iii an outline of how each theoretical point can be applied in real life,
identifying relevant difficulties in implementation ( try to use examples
to help reinforce your points).

iv a summary of which of the module notes were reinforced by the case


study, stating why and how.

v a short summary of what you learnt from the case study, and the key
learning points that you think the other delegates in the class should
take away as having learnt from your presentation.

NOTES

1. Produce group report of maximum 1000 words.


2. Each person in your group must present at least one section of your
group’s presentation for the purposes of providing constructive feedback.
Part B
Individual assignment (30 marks)
Supplier Development ,Customer Development and Customer/Supplier Co-
Development have all been identified during the module as making an important
contribution to the success of Manufacturing Companies.
With the knowledge you have gained from the module and making full use of the
library research facilities and academic journals, research the subject of supplier,
customer or co-Development
(i) in general
(ii) in your company (or industry)
Produce a report of maximum 2000 words which gives a complete overview of the
subject area with case study examples wherever possible, applicable to your
company or industry.
Try to include in your report;

 A special definition of supplier, customer and supplier/customer co-


development.
 What it seeks to achieve (its objectives).
 The reason for supplier, customer and supplier/customer co-development.
 What supplier, customer and supplier/customer co-development is.
 What different types of development take place (e.g. process, design, other
capability, relationship, communication improvement etc.)
 Who is involved?
 How is it achieved (e.g. the various approaches that are used).
 The risks, costs and benefits, and how they are measured.
 What measures are commonly used?
 Any lessons learnt or mistakes made.
 Future trends in this subject area.
 Case study examples to reinforce your points.

1. This assignment (part B) is to be undertaken individually.
2. Your report should have a logical structure, contains contents page.
3. Your report should be word processed in Microsoft Word.
4. Please ensure the module name, plus your name is written on the report.
5. All material used in your report should be fully referenced.
Assignment 2
You are expected to undertake your research through academic journal
articles and some books to answer the following parts A and B of assignment
2 in relation to the relative required aspects.

Part A (25 marks)


Critically review the axioms of supply chain optimisation considering the push, pull
and push-pull applications in organisations.
You are required to show how an organisation can streamline supply and demand
considering the change in focus from mass production to mass customisation.
Discuss situation of an organisation has a very slow reaction to changes in customer
demand. In addition, they have excessive levels of inventory, a high customer
complaint rate and poor delivery performance. Executive Management has been
advised to move from a Push to a Pull environment. What characteristics of a Pull
environment should improve the situation?

Part B (25 marks)


Critically analyse the research and implementation gap in relation to the lean tools
interaction with supply chain management in the service and manufacturing SMEs.

Show the benefits which an organisation could achieve through supply chain
optimisation with an objective of delivering value to customers.

Make use of the diagrams and tables to show the improvements in inventory
reductions, cash-to-cash cycle time, on time in full, order fulfilment, lead time
reduction and profitability. (1000 words)

You are encouraged to use visual aids (e.g. graphs, figures, tables) in your
assignment.

You are expected to cite minimum 10 journal articles for these two questions
of this task.
