6 Governor The principal control device on any engine is the governor. It

governs or controls the engine speed at some fixed value while
power output changes to meet demand. This is achieved by
the governor automatically adjusting the engine fuel pump
settings to meet the desired load at the set speed.

Governor is one kind part of main engine with function for

regulated fuel oil consumption by set the rack position,
During operation we have to routine check of lube oil level and
if in low level have to added to increase level.
7 Turbocharger Turbocharger is an integral umpart of the ship's marine
engine as it reuses the exhaust gases in order to increase the
overall efficiency of the engine. It consists of two parts –
blower and turbine sides, which need equal attention while
carrying out routine maintenance procedures.

Turbocharge is kind of part of main engine wich function for

increase amount volume scavenge air of main engine,
turbocharge is very important part because if turbocharge not in
good condition it can decrease engine performance, some of
routine maintenance of turbocharge such as ceck turbin and
blower side condition, clean up filter air, clean up filter air by
chemical, etc.
8 Overhaul The Procedures top overhaul of main engine:

pipe and exhaust manifold
 If all of items fit in good condition do Running tested

 After maintenance :
 Clean up all of tools and return to the space
 Clean up working space
 Make the maintenance report of overhaul

9 Diagram indicator  The indicator diagram is very important to know the

combustion in the cylinder and also to adjust the
engine.
 The diagram is taken periodically from the indicator
valve equipped on he cylinder head and combustion
condition is to be confirmed.
 The compression pressure and maximum pressure in
the cylinder can be presumed from the indicator
diagram.
 Engine indicator is the device used to take the
indicator diagram, which can be considered as a
‘stethoscope’ for diesel engines.
 Indicator diagrams give efficiency of combustion in
the cylinder, condition of the running gear,
