Using your phone in the bathroom – according to a study of London School of Hygiene &
Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), one out of six mobile phones that are used in the bathroom gets
contaminated with fecal matter, the source of E. coli bacteria. Once this enters your body, it can
cause fever, vomiting, and diarrhea. In order not to get infected, refrain from using your phone
while in the bathroom. If you can't give up that habit, make sure to disinfect or wipe your phone.

Leaving the toilet lid open – according to LSHTM, bacteria like the E. coli and salmonella can
possibly reach 25 cm above the toilet. Therefore, it is recommended to close the lid of the toilet
bowl before you flush. In addition to that, wash your hands properly with soap after using the
toilet.

Improper disposal of used tissues – If you are feeling under the weather, you might not be
aware that you yourself can also be a source of viruses, particularly with the tissues you used. In
order to prevent the bacteria from spreading, properly dispose your used tissues and apply
alcohol after doing so.

Dirty workplace – a study from LSHTM shows that a desktop computer may have more than
400 times of bacteria as compared to an office toilet seat. Specifically, 21,000 germs per square
inch are found in desktop computers and 25,000 germs per square inch are present in an office
telephone. Therefore, it is recommended to refrain from eating on your workplace. You should
also make it a habit to disinfect your office equipment and table.

Sharing of nail cutter – Most families share only one nail cutter, but this is actually not
recommended because it contains a lot of bacteria. Pinoy MD suggests that every family
member should have their own nail cutter. Additionally, you can sterilize your nail cutter with
alcohol to eliminate germs and bacteria.
