In saying that the Sun and the MoonareSovereigns, it must be understood that the Sun is the King, the Moon being the Queen. Similarly,
Jupiter is the Mantri (ministry) and Venus his wife.
Further, the Sun is the lord of the six signs from Simha (taken in the negative side) while the Moon is the lord of the six signs frorn Kataka
counted in the positive side. It is by these two planets that the supremcy over the other 10 signs has been given to Mars and the other planets.
For example, the 2nd place from the Sun (negatively) has been atlotted to Mercury. The 3rd Rasi has given to Venus, who is the minister. The
Vahana stthana or the 4th house has been given over to Mars who is the commander-in-chief. The 5 th house is the house of knowledge, and
has been allotted to Jupiter. To the Saturn has been allotted the 6th bouse or the house of service. Similar remarks apply in the case of the
Moon with respect to the Rasis under her sway.

Notes: The-deities or Adhidevatas of the planets as given above may be invoked to get the respective planets afflictions
cured.
For example, evils indicated by Mercury can be brought undercontrol by offering prayersto Sri Vishnu.
The names of the planetary deities are additionally employed by Varaha Mihira in selecting a name for the child.
The consonants and vowels are attributed to the seven planets as under
The name of the child canbe selected with an initial letter as above based on the stronger of the two, viz. natal ascendant
lord and Navamsa ascendant lord. For example, if Mars is stronger, the name can have a guttural in the beginning
appropriate to the presiding deity. In this case, Subrahmanya is the deity and the name can be Kumara or Guha.
Similar deductions can be suitably made in other cases. If the initial letter belongs to a planet without dignity, it will bring
bad luck.
Likewise, the Nakshatras too have presiding deities. Any afflication causedto natal starby way of maleflc oceupation, or by
eclopses at birth or in a future date, can be warded off by suitable propitiation to the deity concerned.
A malefic planet in a particular star will yield its, evil effects in the Dasa related to that star. For example, if Ketu is in
Krittika in the 9th house, the evil effccts due to father will be given by Ketu iu Sun's dasa (relatedto Krittika). Hence
propitiation of Fire god will counter the possible evil. Alternatively, Lord Ganesa representing Ketu may also be pleased
suitably.
The Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn preside respectively over the following colours: — copper red;
white, bloody red, greenish, yellow, variegated,
and black colours. (1)
Fire (Agni), Water (Varuna) Kartikeya, Visnu, Indra, Sachi, and Prajapati Brahma are respectively the rulers of the Sun,
Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn. (2)
The Sun, Venus, Mars, Rahu, Saturn, the Moon, Mercury, and Jupiter are respectively the rulers of east, south-east, south,
south-west, west, north-west, north, and north-east directions. (3)
North
The waning Moon, the Sun, Mars, and Saturn are considered as the malefic planets; Mercury when joined
Mercury
with any of these is considered
malefic. (4)
Moon Jupiter
Note: — (1) These are useful in ascertaining the colour of stolen articles and in determining
the Saturn Sun colour of the flowers to be used in the worship of the planets.
(2) From the powerful planet at the time of one’s birth, it can be ascertained which
Rahu Venus particular Deva a person would worship.
The Moon is called waning from the eighth day of the dark fortnight to the eighth day of the bright fortnight, when she is
inauspicious; after these, the Moon is called waxing or full when she is considered (auspicious and benefic.
Yavanesvaracharya and others say that the Moon is always considered benefic; though her suspiciousness may be greater
or less on certain days.
The native becomes good or bad according as the planets at his birth are benefic or malefic.

Eminent professors of Artrology say that the 3rd,11th , 6th and the 10th houses are Upachaya (Signs of increase or growth). The remaining
houees, viz. 9th, 2nd, 4th, 5th 7th, 8th 12th and 1st are houses of suffering. These houses if occupied or aspected by their several lords, or by Budha,

When, at the time of birth or query, the malefic planets become powerful and the benefic planets weak and if the eunuch Saturn or Mercury
be stationed in any of the four angular houses or aspect the rising sign, there is the first case of Viyoniyoga (means a living being inferior in
status to man, whether of the animal or vegetablekingdom)
or when the Lagna or Ascendant is aspected by Saturn or Mercury (the malefic planets being powerful and the benefic planets weak) there is
the second case of Viyoniyoga.
In either of these two cases, when the Moon is situated in any Dwadasmsa (indicative of manifold birth) the birth of any insect, bird, or animals
or trees, &etc., will be that indicated by the particular Dwadasmsa.
Note .—
Viyoni Rasis: Mesha, Vrishaba, Kataka, Simha, Vrischika, first half of Dhanus, Makara, or Meena).
These judgments are to be then and then only given, when there is in the horoscopic map during tbe birth time or during the time of enquiry
either of the two cases of Viyoniyoga mentioned in the verse.
If the Moon be in human signs, then the birth of a human being is to be inferred.
In the second yoga, tbe planets Mercury and Saturn may remain in any of the houses ; it is not necessary that they should be situated in the
four cardinal houses ;
what is required that they are to aspect any of the 4 Kendras, especially the Lagna.
Suppose, for instance, at the time of birth the Moon occupies the 20" of the sign Sirpha, As a DvAdaddqufa contains 24° degrees, the 21° of
Siipha is the ninth Dvfidatfilrpda of Siipha. As the names of the Dwadasmsa of Si rpha begin from Sirpha, the ninth Dwadasmsa is that of the
sign Mina. The creature born will therefore be a fish.
Besides, the number of tbe offspring will be that represented by the number of Dwadasmsa passed over by the Moon. Of these the number of
odd Dwadasmsa will represent the male issues, and tbe number of
even Dwadasmsa will represent tbe female issues, tlie number that will die shortly after birth" will be that of the number of tbe Dwadasmsa
that might be occupied by the malefic planets or that might otherwise become weak.

\begin{telugu} కుజేన్దు హేతుః ప్రతిమాసమ్ ఆర్త వం గతే \end{telugu} Mars and the Moon are the causes of the monthly menses.
\begin{telugu} తు పీడఋక్షమ్ అనుష్ణ దిధితౌ \end{telugu} If during any menstruation period the Moon occupy any Anupachaya houses (i.e., 1, 2,
4, 7, 8, 9, 12 houses from the woman’s Janma Rasi, i.e., the Moon-occupied sign during her birth time) and be aspected by Mars, the
conception will take place.
If the Moon occupy the Upachaya houses(i.e., 3, 6, 10, 11 houses) from the husband’s Janma Rasi and if she be aspected by a benefic male
planet (Jupiter) in his horoscope, the conception will take
place from intercourse with her husband.
Note:—(1) Menses appear in women whenever the Moon is aspected by Mars, that is especially when the Moon occupies the 4th, 7th, or the
8th house from Mars. In connection with this subject, the author of
Saravali says:
“ The Moon is water : Mars is fire, a mixture of water and fire is bile; when the bile mixes with the blood, menstrual discharge occurs.”
(2) If, when aspected by Mars, the Moon happens to occupy one of the Anupachaya signs in the horoscope, or nativity of the woman, at
the time of the appearance of the menses, conception will follow. The Upachaya signs are the 3rd, 6th, 10th and 11th house from the
Ascendant;
and the other signs are known as Anupachaya signs.
(3) That is from the time the woman bathes on the 4th day, when the Moon reaches one of the Upachaya houses in the horoscope or nativity
of the husband. And then there will be the sexual union between the husband and wife if the Moon be aspected by powerful Jupiter.
If Moon in his transit occupies an (Upachaya) place and be aspecteilby Jupiter on tbe 5th day aftcr menstruation, the woman joins her husband
and conceives.
Upachaya and anupachaya place are to be counted from the Lagna and not from Janma Rasi.
lt is necessary that Jupiter must throw his aspect on Moon on the 5 th day after menstruation for conception to be possibie.
Along with this, should any hermaphrodite planet strong in position aspect the Moon in transit, the conception cannot take place.
The position of all planets except the Moon should be with referenceto the radix, (nativity at birth).
If we take a women's horoscope, it will be seen that there will only be 3 houses where Mars afflicts the Moon. But 2 of them are likely to be
peedarksha houses (houses of no profit i.e anupachaya houses).
In the following horoscope Mars aspects Kumba, Vrishabha and Mithuna which happen to be the 7 th, 10th and 11th houses respectively.
Leaving off the 10th and 11th which are upachaya places, Kumbha is the only Rasi where when the Moon comes in his transit that menstruation
is capable of effect in giving or causing couception.
For conception to take place on the 5th or the following nights, the Moon by transit on the 5th day after menstruation must receive the ascpect
of Jupite without their being any other aspect from hermaphrodite planet.
From the above principle it is possible to deduce whether a woman will have issues or not.
Following additional information is found in other works:
If, in case of woman as soon as she bathes after the stoppage of menses, Moon in her orbit should occupy an upachaya rasi and be at the same
time aspected by powerful Jupiter, she will have sexual intercourse with her husband.
The kind of copulation that the native can have is such as it is with tbe creature typified by
the 7th Rasi. If the Asta Rasi or the 7th house from the Adhana Lagna be aspected or
occupied by a malefic planet, the union will be in wrath; but if the Asta Lagna be aspected or occupied by benefic planets; the union will
aboundin amorous play and laughter.
Further,
Rasis represent the enjoyment of
Mesha and Vrishabha & like a quadruped of the ram and buffalo
kind
Mithuna, Kanya, Tula, Dhanus first half and Kumbha & human being.
Vrischika aud Makam (latter half), Kataka and Meena (Keeta)- & among centipeds, which is bad.
Simha & enjoyment by force. ( Because, the lion is
a forcible animal)
Makara (1st half) & very good for enjoyment
A combination of the above two ideas will come to this; consider that Mesha represents the 7 th house at the time of enjoyment. A man and
woman under such circumstances enjoy each other like a quadruped in darkeness. Sirnilarly for the rest.
Sun and Venus are termed father and mother respectively of the seed sown during the
day (in case of the conception during) while Saturn and the Moon during the night.
Failing to play the role of parents each of these pairs of planets get the designation of paternal uncle and maternal aunt.
They become propitious to the pair they represent when they occupy the odd and even signs (male among them being in odd sign, the female
in even sign)
Sun represents father at day time and Venus - the mother; Saturn - paternal uncle and Moon - mother's sister.
At night time, Saturn represents father, Moon – mother, Sun - paternal uncle and Venus - mother's sister.
If Sun is in an odd sign, and Venus in an even one, it is good for both man and woman.
Similarly, Saturn in an odd sign and Moon in an even one is good for paternal uncle and maternal aunt.
Sun and Saturn are planets that stay tolerably for a long period .in. a sign, viz., 30 days and 30 months respectively.
If the above principle is applied, it becomes fallacious as there cannot be so many deaths almong those born during the periods when the
planets in their transits complete their passage in that sign.
It should therefore be taken as Ojabhava and not Ojarasi. Then it will prove correct.

\begin{telugu} బృహజ్జా తకం -- చతుర్థో ఽధ్యాయః (౪) \end{telugu} $ 16^{th} $ Sloka states
Venus ia the ruler of the first, month after the conception when the embryo in formed, i.e., when spermagenetale and blood mix with each
other;
Mars is the ruler of the second month, when the above things are solidified into flesh; Jupiter is the ruler of the third month when limbs,
i.e., hands, mouth & etc., are formed;
Sun is the ruler of the fourth month when bones are formed;
Moon is the ruler of the fifth month when the skin ia formed;
Saturn is the ruler of the sixth month wlien hairs begin to grow ;
Mercury is the ruler of the seventh month when consciousness is infused into the child;
the ruler of the Ascendant during the conception time, is the ruler of the eighth month (when food is being taken through the navel chord);
Moon is the ruler of the ninth month (when motion is produced, movements are felt in the womb); and
Sun is the ruler of the tenth month (when delivery takes place).
The foetus in the womb fares well or ill as the then ruler was well or ill at the conception time.
If the ruler of any month be afflicted at the time of conception (in the fight with other planets etc.,), then miscarriage takes place in that
month;
if any ruler be weak then the foetus suffers in his month and if the ruler be strong,
the foetus gets fully developed.
Note: According to Yavaneswara the ruler of the first month is Mars and that of the second month is Venus. If Sun be powerful the child
would resemble its father, and if Moon is powerful, the child would resemble its mother. The health and disposition of the child follow those
of its parents at the time of conception.

The following are six planetary positions tending severally to the production of a eunuch:-
(1) Sun and Moon in opposition and therefore mutually aspecting.
(2) Mercury and Saturn in opposition and so mutually acpecting.
(3) Mars in opposition to Sun, Sun being in an even sign; or Sun in an even sign, being aspected by Mars (Mars beingin any sign); or, in
other words, Sun in an even sign in opposition or square to Mars or in quincuox aspect.
(4) Moon and Lagna being in odd signs and aspected by Mars (which means affliction by Mars being in square to one and in quincunx to
another).
(5) The Moon in an even signand Mercury in an odd sign both being aspected by Mars; and
(6) Venus, Moon and Lagna occupying Navamsasbelongingto odd signs.

\begin{telugu}త్రికోణగే \end{telugu} being in 5th and 9th house from the Lagna;
\begin{telugu}జ్ఞే \end{telugu} Mercury;
\begin{telugu}విబలైః\end{telugu} on becoming weak;

\begin{telugu}అవాగ్ \end{telugu} void of the power of speech;
\begin{telugu}గవీ \end{telugu} in the sign Vrisa;
\begin{telugu}ఇందోః \end{telugu} on Moon being;
\begin{telugu}అవశుభైః\end{telugu} malefic;
\begin{telugu}భసంధిగైః \end{telugu} in the last Navamsas of Karka, Vrischika and Meena;
\begin{telugu}శుభేక్షితః\end{telugu} aspected by benefic planets;
\begin{telugu}చత్ \end{telugu} if;
\begin{telugu}కురుతే \end{telugu} produce;
\begin{telugu}గిరం \end{telugu} speech;
\begin{telugu}చిరాత్ \end{telugu} after along time.
If Mercury is in the fifth and ninth houses (1) from the Lagna and all the other planets be weak then 2 heads, 4 hands 4 feet are
produced.
If Moon is in Vrisabha rasi and if malefic planets be in the last Navamsas of Karka, Vrischika and Meena then the issue will
be mute from his birth;
and if Moon be aspected by benefic planets, then there will he speech after a long time (2).
Notes :— According to some commentators, the word Trikona in the text is Moola Trikona, i.e., in the sign Kanya here. But Garga is of
different opinion here.
(2) But if malefic planets aspect the Moon, the child will never speak; if both, malefic and benefic planets aspect the Moon, the effects
will follow the powerful planets.
\begin{telugu} సౌమ్యఋక్షాంశే \end{telugu} in signs Mithuna or Kanya: there is another meaning :— in the Navamsas of signs Mithuna or
Kanya;
\begin{telugu} రవిజరుధిరౌ \end{telugu} Saturn and Mars;
\begin{telugu} చేత్ \end{telugu} if;
\begin{telugu} సదన్తోః \end{telugu} with teeth;
\begin{telugu} అత్ర \end{telugu} in these circumstances;
\begin{telugu} జాతః \end{telugu} is born;
\begin{telugu} కుబ్జః \end{telugu} hump-backed;
\begin{telugu} స్వఋక్షే \end{telugu} in its own house (i.e., in the Karka sign);
\begin{telugu} శశిని \end{telugu} on the Moon beingl
\begin{telugu} తనుగే \end{telugu} in the Lagna;
\begin{telugu} మన్ద మాహేయదృష్టే \end{telugu} aspected by Saturn and Mars;
\begin{telugu} పఙ్గు ః \end{telugu} lame (crippled);
\begin{telugu} మీనే \end{telugu} in Meena Sign;
\begin{telugu} యమ శశి కుజైః \end{telugu} by Saturn, Moon and Mars;
\begin{telugu} వీక్షితే \end{telugu} being aspected by;
\begin{telugu} లగ్న సంస్థే \end{telugu} situated in the Lagna;
\begin{telugu} సంధౌ \end{telugu} in the last Navamsa of Karka, Vrischika and Meena;
\begin{telugu} పాపే \end{telugu} malefics i.e., one of Sun, Mars and Saturn;
\begin{telugu} శశిని \end{telugu} Moon;
\begin{telugu} చ \end{telugu} and;
\begin{telugu} జడః \end{telugu} deaf;
\begin{telugu} స్యాత \end{telugu} become;
\begin{telugu} న \end{telugu} not;
\begin{telugu} చేత్ \end{telugu} if;
\begin{telugu} సౌమ్యదృష్ట ః \end{telugu} aspected by benefic planets.
If there be Saturn and Mars in the Navamsas of Mercury or in his signs, i.e, Mithuna and Kanya (1) then the child comes out of the womb
with teeth.
If there be Moon in the Lagna, Karka and if she he fully aspected by Saturn and Mars, hump-backed child comes out of the womb.
If there be Moon in the sign Mina or Pisces Lagna in the horizon, and if it he aspected by Saturn, Moon, and Mars then lame, crippled
child is born.
If there be a malefic planet (i.e., One of the three planets, the Sun, Mars and Saturn) and Moon, in the last Navfunsas of Karka, Vrischika
and Mina, then deaf child is born.
In all these four cases, if there be benefitc aspect of good planets ( i.e, If aspected by Jupiter, the effect will not occur) then the result is
somewhat modified for the better; nay, if aspected by strong Jupiter, the effects will not occur.
Note:— (l) Or both the signs and Navamsas according to some commentators.
A third meaning :
If the second Drekana rises in the horizon and it be aspected by Saturn, Moon and Sun then the native is without hands;
if the third Drekana rises and it be aspected by Saturn, Moon and Sun, then the native is
without legs;\\
if the first Drekana rises with the above mentioned conditions then the native is without a head.
Note: The second and the third meanings are to be taken of the 2nd half of this stanza, a fourth meaning is sometimes given as follows:
If Mars occupy the 2nd or the 3rd or the 1st Drekana of a rising sign, then no arms, no legs, no head are successively visible. But this is
opposed to the opinion of Gargi.
If Simha Lagna is occupied by Sun and Moon and if it be aspected by Saturn and Mars, then totally blind child will be born. (In the above
case if Sun only in the Lagna, then right eye only is deprived ; and if it is with Moon only, then left eye is deprived).\\
And in both the above case, if the Lagna is aspected by benefic planets, then swollen eyes (or with a mole in its eyes; or with one eye
smaller) are seen.\\
Again if there be in the twelfth house the Moon (aspected
by the evil planets Mars and Saturn) then the left eye is deprived;
and if,
in the above case, the Sun exist instead of the Moon, then the light eye is deprived.
All the bad planetary influences mentioned in this and the preceding verses from 17th stanza, when aspected by benefic planets, are
somewhat moderated; not entirely removed.
(If proper precautionary measures are taken, then bad influences may be almost averted).

(If moveable sign, then the lamp was being removed from one place to another; if fixed, the lamp
was fixed in a corner; if common, the lamp was just placed in a corner after its removal.) Some
are of opinion that the lamp is faced to the direction that is denoted by the sign where the Sun
exists, some again say that the lamp is faced to the direction which the Sun in his diurnal
revolution at present indicates.
The Sun faces towards 8 directions respectively during the eight praharas, one prahara being
equal to 3 hours, Some again say, that the colour of the wick of the lamp resembles the colour of
