You get a lot of rain.
You get a lot of violence.
Anything you want you can find in Sao Paulo.
It´s definitely a very live city.
So I love Sao Paulo.
The great part of the economy of Brazil is concentrated in this city, so everything happens
here.
People in Brazil they think it´s really important to learn English for your jobs, your career and
stuff ´cause it´s like a global language.
Usually people in Brazil know how to write, know how to read, but don`t know how to speak.
When it comes to speak, they get nervous and say everything wrong.
So then I started at private school to learn the basics, but I dunno, I think… it didn`t turn out
very well.
I learned the vocabulary and the g… the grammar really well, but I couldn`t communicate.

Question: How can young learners be helped to communicate better in English?

We teach like in a different methodology. I think we`re the only ones in Brazil that does like

We basically play with the kid while the kid learns. So we don`t use a book, like for he teaching
process. Ehhh, we play with the kid, we tell stories. We usually try to see what the kid likes.
Like if he or she likes superheroes, we take superhero themes to the class, to talk about parts
of the body and about adjectives, and about all the things that can make this kid speak in
English.
Children here learn in ways in which they can express themselves, so we always use English as
a means of communication, always talking about ourselves, making questions that we do not

Having language being used as a real means of communication. We teach using
communication as the base so kids say what they really want to say.
But they say it in Portuguese an then we help them to resay that in English. (Solene Uribe

Question: How are Brazilian teenagers learning to communicate better in English?

The more you talk, the better you get. So really trying to speak and trying to talk and using that

Well, if you´re talking about fun ways to learn English I could suggest video games. Mario`s
Saga and… what more? Zelda games, car race games, football games they are very popular,
and… if possible you choose the international games, that you can speak in English with a lot of
people from different countries… and this is a very good way to train, especially for talking
about internet. We are talking in real time and we have a lot of problems with time, actually.
We say “No, now it´s night here”. “No, now it´s morning here”. Or something like that. But
English is the very very … ahh… very very good part because, for example I’m going to say
about my brother. My brother, he plays a game called Ragnarok and in Brazil we have a
national play for this game but we have the international too so we can choose, and he
chooses the international part. And one day we were having dinner and then he said, “Mum, I
was talking with my Korean friend. He was saying something about his parents. “And I said,
“Korean friend? How is it possible? Korea? How do you speak with them?”. “Ah, in English of
course.” And he was … he was talking so… ahhh, in a so relaxing way and I… was like,
“Amazing!” because he has just 14 years old, and when I was 14 years old I couldn`t speak that

Personally I have I practice English too on Myspace and on Facebook and here in Brazil it´s very
usual for us to have Orkut. It`s a website, err… and I put my Orkut in English… the settings are
all in English. Many…the majority of my friends here… they put it, the settings, on Portuguese.
You`re not practicing, if you do that. So I talk with my friends from Louisiana on Myspace and
on Facebook. And on Facebook I add people from South Africa, from Syria, It`s an Arabic
country, from Iran. Now we have twitter… twitter too, and I follow a lot of artists for example
John Mayer and Al Jazeera, they, that it`s umm… Arabic Tv, so that when they put their status
they put everything in English. So when you go on twitter, you read their status, and you want
to put your status too in English. So you have to be able to do that. Even if you don`t have
private classes or if you don´t like go to a very good school, where you can learn English, you
can go on the internet and follow twitter, Facebook, Orkut, Myspace. It´s a cool thing to do,
and you can learn English on that. In my case music helped me a lot. For example, from British I

scenes? The libertines. It helped me a lot `Cause they sing something, as you said, about some
things about London and how is the way of life in England and then you go on Google or

there… I think it`s really good for… for you because you learn other cultures. They help me a
lot actually, `Cause if it wasn’t for them I… I really I wouldn`t, I wouldn`t speak English. `Cause I
never. I had in school, English, but a lot of people here they do like, outside courses like a
course of English two times a week. I never did that, and people were always like, “Oh, you
never did this kind of courses? And you Know how to speak?” and I said, “Yeah, `Cause I use all
the information I learn in school twice a week and try to mix with all the things I could that
music and films and everything provides to me, and I kind of mix everything and I learn”.

RPG games are games that you use one character and develop this character, and you control
the character and other people control theirs. So you meet their characters and you talk to
them. Everyone`s connected at the same time and English is the language that everybody
speaks, so if you don`t speak English, you can`t interact with all the people. That`s where I got
my English from. I played RPG online games a lot when I was little so I wrote a lot of English
and I had to understand what they say. If someone says a word that you don`t know, you go
into the dictionary and see what it means because it`s very important for you to know because
it`s your character in the game. It represents you. So it`s like you need to speak English, so if
someone tells you a word that you don`t know you have to look to answer the question. If you
wanna get want to get fluent in English, the best thing you could do is travel a bit for a country
that the English is native. But, if you work really hard and watch movies, hear music, play video
games that the English language is the focus, you can really get the roots of the language and

Básicamente jugamos con el niño mientras el niño aprende. Así que no usamos un libro, como
para el proceso de enseñanza. Ehhh, jugamos con el niño, contamos historias. Por lo general,
tratamos de ver lo que le gusta al niño. Como si a él o ella le gustan los superhéroes, llevamos
temas de superhéroes a la clase, para hablar sobre partes del cuerpo y adjetivos, y sobre todas
las cosas que pueden hacer que este niño hable en inglés.
Los niños aquí aprenden de maneras en las que pueden expresarse, por lo que siempre
usamos el inglés como medio de comunicación, siempre hablamos de nosotros mismos y

usar la comunicación como base para que los niños digan lo que realmente quieren decir.

comida.
Comida y aquí venden ... amendoins. Miseria. Entonces todos los animales comen ...

Como si eso fuera algo que no es de afuera hacia adentro, sino que se mueve de adentro hacia
afuera.

Pregunta: ¿Cómo aprenden los adolescentes brasileños a comunicarse mejor en inglés?

Cuanto más hablas, mejor te pones. Así que realmente trato de hablar y tratar de hablar y usar

configuración, en portugués. No estás practicando, si haces eso. Así que hablo con mis amigos

un país árabe, de Irán. Ahora tenemos twitter ... twitter también, y sigo a muchos artistas, por
ejemplo John Mayer y Al Jazeera, ellos, que es umm ... Tv árabe, de modo que cuando ponen
su estado ponen todo en inglés. Entonces, cuando entras en Twitter, lees su estado y también

Los juegos de rol son juegos en los que usas un personaje y lo desarrollas, controlas al
personaje y otras personas controlan el suyo. Así que te encuentras con sus personajes y les
