Q1. Problem 3.25 from Dumir’s notes (p. 242/243) -- A radar antenna rotates about the
vertical axis at a constant rate of 𝜔" . The angle of elevation 𝜃 of the antenna is varied as
𝜃 = 𝜃& 1 + 𝑐𝑜𝑠 𝑝𝑡 by a motor which applied a moment M to the antenna. The mass of the
0
antenna is m and the centre of mass is at C. The principal moments of inertia at C are 𝐼"" = 𝐼" ,
0 0
𝐼22 = 𝐼33 = 𝐼2 . Find M and the force-couple reaction on the antenna from its support at O.

Q2. Problem 3.19 from Dumir’s notes (p. 241) -- The shaft shown in the figure carries two thin
rectangular plates and a thin circular disc welded to it. It rotates at 150 𝑘 rad/s and an axial
couple M0 = 10 N-m is applied to it. Find its angular acceleration and the bearing reactions at
this instant. The bearing at D does not provide axial restraint.
Q3. The 4-kg uniform rod ABD is attached to the crank BC and is fitted with a small wheel that
can roll without friction along a vertical slot. Knowing that at the instant shown crank BC rotates
with an angular velocity of 6 rad/s clockwise and an angular acceleration of 15 rad/s2
counterclockwise, determine the reaction at A.
