Leadership

Leadership begins when you start caring for those that you are not obliged to in any way.

Leadership begins when you decide to become a servant yet your status quo does not allow it.

Leadership begins when we are able to help those that are most in need of our help. Leadership is

character. Leadership is humility. However, most members of society associate leadership with

prestige and power.

Those that are not ready to be led are not fit to lead others. If one is to become a leader,

they should first be selfless because leadership is about service to the people and not the other

way around (Cloud, 2006). Most people seek leadership positions so that they can exercise the

power that comes with it, along with other privileges. However, power should only be an icing

on the cake. A true leader does not require power so that they can lead, but rather charisma

(Kruse, 2018). It is because of this reason that most communities across the globe suffer due to

unstable systems which are governed by people who sought for the leadership positions due to

hunger for power.

The question that comes to everyone’s mind is whether anyone is fit to rule? Are leaders

born, or are leaders shaped by the actions and experiences of life. In the traditional dynasties, one

could say that the members of the royal families acquired their positions due to related blood ties

(Kruse, 2018). However, in the modern systems of democracy, which is practiced globally by

most nations, leaders are elected by the masses. This leads to yet another question, which

between the systems was better.

Both of the hierarchies of leadership have their pros and cons. There is no single perfect

system. However, according to various scholars that have studied the matter from the beginning

of history, the kinship system was a little bit blunt (Cloud, 2006). It basically implied that a good

leader is born. Because of the mere factor of being born to a king, it implied that someone had

secure a throne without even having to ask for it or at least strive. That is why over the years the

system has gradually lost its popularity.

So, if leaders are not born, then how are they made? This is a rather intriguing question as

over the years people have had varied opinions on what it means to be a good leader. However

what most of us can agree on is that a leader is natured from the first days when they are born.

This is when a man or woman is able to learn the fundamentals of life such as humility, caring,

courage, eloquence, and mercy (Kruse, 2018). A good leader is always natured from the

beginning.

It is therefore upon society to elect leaders that are ready to serve them and not exploit

power. There some notable examples of leaders from history who have even gone to the point of

being labelled as dictators. A dictator is a leader who has refuse to serve his people and instead

his people serve him (Kruse, 2018). He does not consider nor care for the safety or well-being of

his followers, rather he does the best he can so that he can exploit them for as long as he can

(Kruse, 2018). Many societies have suffered gravely due to dictators, with thousands that try to

oppose them end up losing their heads.

In conclusion, we should all participate in matters of leadership/politics as it affects us on

one way or another. Plato, the famous Greek philosopher once said that, those who refuse to

participate in matters of the state shall end up being governed by their inferiors. In this way, it is

upon each one of us to lead where they can even if its in a domestic setting.
