How to synthesize magnetite NPs
-

Materials research at the nanometer scale has applications in numerous fields of science,
including those related to the health sciences. The industrial and biomedical applications
of magnetite nanoparticles (NPs) reside in their properties, which is why the study of
magnetic materials is necessary. To make the latter, it is necessary to manipulate objects
the size of atoms and molecules; those whose length ranges from 1 to 100 nanometers
(nm).
The purpose is to create materials for devices and systems (biosensors for diagnosis, drug
transport mechanisms) that allow specific functions that emulate, or not, nature. An
electrically charged particle creates a magnetic dipole when it rotates, the so-called
magnetron. By applying an external magnetic field to the material, the magnetic dipoles
are arranged with the field giving rise to a magnetic moment within the material.

Instructions
1. Have knowledge about the chemicals that we are going to handle
2. Wear a lab coat, gloves, and face mask
3. Use 80 ml H2O of and heat up to 80 °C in a beaker.
4. Weigh the chemical reagents (FeCl2*4H2O Y FeCl3*6H2O+) in the analytical balance.
5. Add the FeCl2*4H2O until it reaches 80 °C and stir at 400 rpm for 40 min.
6. Slowly add FeCl3*6H2O (g) stir at 450 rpm for 30 min.
7. Add 8 ml of NH2OH slowly and dripping using a syringe for 5 min.
8. Keep 80°C under stirring for 20 min.
9. Add 200 ml of water and wait for the solution to cool.
10. Finally approach a magnet to observe that Magnetite NPs are superparamagnetic.
Note* Approximate size we will get will be 7 nm.
