Westernization

Firstly we need to know about what is westernization. That what is westernization? The word
westernization refers to the change in technology, institution, ideology and values of a non-
western society as a result of culture contact with the western society for a long period.
Ultimately westernization is a result of industrialization and modernization. let us take a
example of Indian society technological changes, establishment of educational institution, rise
of nationalism and a new political culture etc.

Like now we need to talk about consequences of westernization in modern India. What is the
need of westernization and what is the main problem is faced by Indian society because of
westernization?

In recent incident happen on Bangalore on the New Year evening that a girl is molested by
group of boys. After happening of this incident home minister of Karnataka says that this is
effect of westernization and said that this is the effect of too much rapidly upbringing in the
westernization. After this shameful incident many other eminent people say that molestation
problem is faced by modern India because of nudity is in fashion.

Is this is a right statement or we can say that this is the wrong allegation on westernization
culture? Can westernization is the only factor of the molestation problem in modern India?

I am disagree with this statement because there is always has a two aspect of anything. Black
and white. On the bright side westernization is important in the progress of any society and on
the dark side there is case like that.

After this question who is responsible for this shameful act like that? In gender aspect who is
responsible girls or boys?

Like this is a well know theory that “EK HAATH SE TAALI NAHI BAJTI”

Boys as well as girls are responsible for this type of case like on girls aspect with the
westernization girls have forgotten their dressing sense. There is incidence when the girl does
use the boys fulfilling their needs and then leaving the relationship in vain. And on the boys
aspect that they definitely the first cause which needs to be taught the basic manner and
decency. It is the upbringing which plays a major role. the literacy is also another factor.

It is very much acceptable that both boys and girls have their own share of responsibility in
curbing such incident across the country. It is not wrong to incorporate other culture, but we
need to understand and respect our own culture and dignity.
There is one more problem we face in modern India. After happening of such incidents girls
have no guts to stand against the wrong doer. They have fear of society that what will other
people says like “LOG KYA KAHENGE”.Is this is a right? No, absolutely no because this type of
act can motivate the wrongdoer and the main reason in increasing such incidents. The primary
solution of these problems is that girls should stand against crime like that. Such types of crimes
are punishable in India under section 354 and 509 of Indian penal code 1860. The section says
that this offense is considered less serious then rape. Punishment up to two years
imprisonment or a fine or both,

Again there is question that this is sufficient punishment for such heinous crimes? I think that’s
not. In the USA there is law named jessica’s law. In this law accused need to wear a GPS device
for a lifelong and there is a law named chelsea’s law, in this law accused must receive a life
sentence without the possibility of parole.

After this entire question I conclude that westernization has greatly affected our tradition,
customs, our family and our respect and love for others. There is no harm in taking good things
from western but this does not mean that we should completely adopt it and pretend to be
western and misrepresent our identity. It is understandable that India is growing in every field
and there is necessity of knowing all the culture and their tradition. To some extent this is fine
but we should not pretend that we dislike the Indian values and likes only western culture. No
doubt the western culture is versatile and has taught to be self-independent but this does not
mean that we will forget our culture at all and blindly follow it.

I used feministic approach above but this is a harsh reality of modern India and we should care
about that and cure it for the upbringing of modern India and society and for the bright future
of entire country.
