Anticipatory Set/Hook/Daily Review:
Time to complete: 4 mins
- As the children walk in, there will be an iPad on their desk with Socrative pulled up already for later in the lesson. This has been done
before class.
- There will also be a basket of bags of coins by the door. The students are to take one as them come in. The bag will contain pennies,
nickels, dimes and quarters. There will also be a “store” set up in one corner of the classroom. The students will walk around the store and
look at things they would like to purchase.
- They will be given the instruction that at the end of class, they will have the opportunity to shop in the store
with the coins in the bag.
- We will identify the name of each President on each coin.
Input/Modeling or Present Information:
Time to complete: 10 mins
Instructional - First, we will come up to the smart board and click and drag coins to their appropriate values.
to the value of the coin. This will teach them what the coin looks like and how much each coin is worth.
Design: - Next, students will come to the board and be given a picture of a coin and write the value of the coin next to the picture on the board. They
will also be groups of coins that the student has to add up and write the value of the group. This will give all students a visual learning
experience.
- Finally, students will be instructed to separate different coins into individual piles and count the value of each pile.
Check for Understanding/Provide Learner Guidance: Time to complete: 2 mins
- Students will use their Plickers pieces and answer a few matching and identification questions about the value of money. This will
Give a good idea of who understands the material and who is struggling.
Guided Practice with coaching /Elicit Performance:
Time to complete: 8 mins
- This will be done by doing worksheet number one.
- They will take the cut out the coins that have already been cut out by teacher and glue them next to the proper value amount.
Independent Practice/Provide informative feedback: Time to complete: 7 mins
- The students will do the second set of worksheets. The first sheet will be coins in a line and the student will
count the value of the coins and write it next to the group of coins.
- The second sheet will be word problems and the student will add up the value of coins needed, then
draw the coins on the paper.
Closure: Time to complete: 7 mins
- Students will have the opportunity to go into the “store” and buy things with the coins they used in
the earlier exercise.
- Each object in the store is labeled with a price so the students will have to figure out how to pay for
each object using the coins they have.
Formal Assessment: Time to complete: 5 mins
- Students will open their iPads and use the Socrative tool to take a short quiz on the value of money. I can then use the results to analyze if
each student was able to grasp the material.
Enhance/Transfer: Time to complete: 2 mins
- We will discuss how each object purchased in the store has a price attached to it and how important it is to
know the value of each coin when you are at the store going shopping.

Recommendation they felt they learned that was new/ did well today and one area they feel they need more practice. They will also rate their
experience with Plickers and Socrative on a scale from 1(worst) to 4 (best).
: I will then go over the results
Teacher Feedback:
I will reflect on the lesson, looking at all aspects of the instructional design. I will rate myself on a scale of 1 (worst) to 4
(best) on how the integration of technology went. I will then take a look at the feedback from the students and take that into
consideration.
