Point 11 : Eliminate Numerical Quotas and MBO

Many organisation reward employees based on some pre-defined standard of results, may be in the
form of numerical quotas or objectives. This type of management only by considering number may
induce fear in the mind of employees, and short cut quality to reach goal. So it must be eliminate to
obtain TQM.

In SCGC, there is no particular quota to meet. The Luthiers in each workstation check the quality
before they send it to the next station. They believe in obtaining the highest level quality rather than
quantity.

Point 12 : Remove Barriers to pride in workmanship.

Ambitious organisations should build an working environment in which the employees take pride in
what they do. They should be rewarded for their accomplishments and should not be treated as just
another machine parts of the process.

In SCGC, the above point is considered during the hiring process itself. They hire employees who
want to work as a team and have passion for making good guitars. The company also boost creativity
by providing the leverage of making two guitar annually for oneself.

Point 13 : Encourage Education and Self-Improvement.

This point refers to continuing, broad education for self-development. Organisation must invest in
their employees at all levels to attain long term goal. It is important to increase the value of their
employee as well as increasing their motivation.

In SCGC, luthiers are encouraged to take external courses in order to explore new guitar building
techniques. They can also practice it by making two guitar for themselves annually, so that they
explore the art of guitar making.

Point 14 : Take action

Take action refers to companies ability to change its culture and the ability of top management to
embrace the required change. changing the culture of an organisation must start with the
cooperation of top management, which is not the case in many organisation, than rest of the
organisation.

In SCGC, they recruits candidates that have the willingness to work in team environment. So, it is
inferred that they are cooperative.
