General Overview

Apollo Tyres Ltd. came into inception in 1972 and has since been a trusted name in the
business of manufacture and sale of tyres. With its corporate headquarters in Gurgaon, India,
the company caters to over 100 countries across the globe.

The company markets its products under our two global brands: Apollo and Vredestein.
These products are available in countries across the globe through a vast network of branded,
exclusive and multi-product outlets. Apollo Tyres has multiple manufacturing units in India,
the Netherlands and Hungary.

Apollo Tyres as a business organisation also deals with various other companies and together
they make products available to the public.

Apollo tyres started as a public limited company so it not family operated or owned it is
owned by the government and is operated by a well-known and experienced team as its board
of directors.

degree from a well-known and reputed institute along with some years of experience in the
industry at good post in blue chip companies.

SWOT ANALYSIS

Strengths-
Brand Image- Apollo enjoys a strong brand name in the market and thus it is one of the main
strengths that the company enjoys. The presence of various brands gives the company as
competitive edge over the competitors.

Strong Financial Performance- Apollo tyres have been performing good financially over the
past few years and this has led to an increase in the shareholder value and will also help the
company for future expansion.

Market Share- Apollo tyres hold a huge market share in India and is one of the largest player
in the medium as well as light commercial vehicles.

R&D- The company has invested heavily in the research and development this has helped the
company to develop new innovative products and it is one of the strengths of Apollo Tyres as
it will help in increasing revenues and profits.

Weakness-

Production issues- The company has faced a lot of issues due to labour unrest in lot of areas
of manufacturing this has a deep impact on the production of the company.

Dependence on domestic market- Although the company has started operating globally but
still it faces a lot of issues due to its heavy dependence on the domestic market as huge part
of revenue is generated from the domestic market. Any uncertainties in the domestic market
can affect the revenues drastically.

Opportunities-

Growing industry- The expansion of the four-wheeler industry in India is a big opportunity
for the company to grab as it will help the company to grow and increase its business.

Global Expansion- Not only the Indian market for the commercial vehicles is growing but the
market is growing globally and with this increase the company can take maximum advantage
to grow and increase its profits.
Threats-

Strong competition- The company faces strong and tough competition from some of the
major players in the market and it can be seen as a serious threat as it will affect the company
and its growth.

Cheap tyres in China- The competition is faced not only domestically but also internationally
as the company faces tough competition from China as it produces tyre at a very low cost and
thus provide low price tyres in the market.

Rubber market- The rubber market in India is volatile and fluctuates a lot due to
uncertainties. Thus, it affects the production of the company.

Competitive Analysis
Apollo Tyres operates in the automobile industry and faces competition from many other
rivals in the same sector. The company faces competition from MRF Tyres, JK Tyres, CEAT
Tyres etc.

MRF Limited (MRF) is an Indian multinational and the largest manufacturer of tyres in


India and the fourteenth largest manufacturer in the world. It is headquartered in Chennai,
India. The company manufactures rubber products including tyres, treads, tubes and conveyor
belts, paints and toys. MRF also runs the MRF Pace Foundation, Chennai and MRF
Challenge in motorsport.

Part of the JK Organisation, JK Tyre & Industries Ltd is a leading tyre manufacturer in India
and amongst the top 25 manufacturers in the world with a wide range of products catering to
diverse business segments in the automobile industry. JK Tyre is the only tyre manufacturer
in India to be included in the list of Superbrand in 2017, the sixth time the honour has been
conferred upon the company. JK Tyre has global presence in 100 countries across six
continents, backed by production support from 12 plants - 9 in India and 3 in Mexico. 

Mumbai head-quartered CEAT, the flagship company of the Rs 22,000-crore RPG


Enterprises, was established in 1958. Today, CEAT is one of India’s leading tyre
manufacturers and has strong presence in global markets. CEAT produces over 15 million
tyres a year and offers the widest range of tyres to all segments and manufactures world-class
radials for: heavy-duty trucks and buses, light commercial vehicles, earthmovers, forklifts,
tractors, trailers, cars, motorcycles and scooters as well as auto-rickshaws.

On comparison we find that Apollo Tyres fares well in front of its rivals. The country has a
global presence and is striving to achieve excellence through continuous improvement and
innovation. Apollo Tyres tries to manufacture tyres for all types of vehicles and solve the
problems of its users.

Conclusion
In conclusion we can state that Apollo Tyres has a long way to go in the automobile sector.
At present, the company is at par with the current technologies and gives a tough competition
to its rivals. However, in order to maintain the position, the company needs to continue its
efforts.

Apollo Tyres can also try to make a forward integration to make vehicles rather than only
tyres of vehicles. This move will surely benefit the company and help it to gain an upper edge
from their competitors.
