How do I perform a basic start up procedure for a PowerFlex 750-Series AC drive?

20G PowerFlex 755
20F PowerFlex 753

Answer
There are two ways that a basic start up procedure can be done for the PowerFlex 750-Series AC drive.

The Assisted Start Up menu on the HIM that is located on the drive itself
The Start Up wizards in either the Connected Components Workbench, DriveExecutive, or RSLogix/Studio
5000 software

HIM Start Up
To get to the HIM Start up menu you will need perform the following actions by pressing the appropriate keys on the
HIM module.

1. Press the escape key to display the current port that is selected on the HIM. The Escape key is the upper left
most button on the HIM.

2. Use the left or right arrow keys to navigate to the main control board of the drive located in port 0. The HIM
display should then look like the image above.
3. Once you are on the PowerFlex 753/755 port 0 display then hit the folder button on the HIM that is located to
the left of the 0 key.
4. After pressing the folder key then navigate either left or right using the keys until you reach the Start Up tab.
5. You should now be on Begin Start Up option. Click the (5 key) to begin the drive start up
6. You should then see the following screens below. Hit the enter key (upper right most key on the HIM) two
times and that should take you into the drive start up
7. You can then go through each tab in the start up menu to enter the Motor Control mode, Motor Data,
Feedback, I/O, etc.
8. Once all the information is entered you can hit done and then exit start up.

Using the Start Up Wizard


Connect to the drive using either the Connected Components Workbench, DriveExecutive or RSLogix/Studio 5000
software.

KnowledgeBase document 586624 - PowerFlex with Connected Component Workbench and USB
Programming (//rockwellautomation.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/586624) can be used to provide
additional assistance in showing how to connect to the drive using Connected Components Workbench.

Once connected to the drive you can then click on the Wizards option on the top control panel. Then select the
PowerFlex 753/755 Start Up Wizard from the drop down. This wizard will then walk through setting up the basic start
up parameters as well as performing the necessary start up tests.

NOTE: Depending on your software method and/or version, the wizard button may look different. Generally, it is a
wand icon.
