PURPOSE OF LIFE

Allah (SWT) said in Quran:

“O mankind, worship your Lord, who created you and those before you, that
you may become righteous”
(Surah Al-Baqara, Ayat 21)
Whenever we think about the creation of the universe, the sun, the stars, the planets and
the scientific evidence about the Big Bang Theory etc., many questions starts to appear in
our mind about what is the purpose of our creation? Why we came to this world? Why we
have been created?

The answers to all are questions lies in the above verse. The reason that we are here on this
tiny planet spinning in a seemingly infinite universe, is to worship Allah. This is not a secret
or a mystery. Finding the meaning of life is possible with only one thing, a desire to fulfill
Allah’s plan.

“And I (ALLAH) created not the jinn and mankind, except to worship Me
(Alone).”
(Quran 51:56)
Now, worship doesn’t just mean to offer five prayers, fasting in Ramadan, giving zakat and
performing Hajj, it could be anything like eating food, talking to friends, playing games etc,
but the point is that all are intentions should be according to Islam and shariah.
So, the creation of the humans, as well as Jinns, is for the purpose of worshipping Allah
Almighty. When a Muslim worships Allah, he or she actually accepts His Lordship which is
the same as they did on the oath that was taken before their birth. Thus, the more a Muslim
worships Allah the closer to Him he or she gets and meaning of existence starts emerging.

The last Prophet, Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH) said;

“Allah Almighty said: O son of Adam, busy yourself with my worship and I
will fill your heart with riches and alleviate your poverty. If you do not do so, I
will fill your hands with problems and never alleviate your poverty.”

(Sunan al-Tirmidhī 2466)

Role as being a University
Student
As a Muslim and a university student, it is our moral duty to apply this purpose of life in
achieving our goals and ambitions. There are different ways through which we can fulfill
this purpose like taking part in academic and non-academic activities, hanging on with our
friends , take part in sports etc but in all these things one should consider the Islamic
principles.

The Prophet (SAW) said;

“Whoever follows a path in the pursuit of knowledge Allah will make a path
to Jannah easy for him.”

 As Muslim students, it is our responsibility to try our utmost and to excel in the field
of knowledge so as to achieve parity with other nations and to ultimately wrest back
the leadership in the field of Knowledge. Secondly, it is our responsibility to
safeguard our identity as members of the Ummah. We are the best of nations for we
uphold the truth and hinder the falsehood.
 As a university student always respect and obeys your teachers. We know that
teaching is a very sacred profession. The teacher is considered the profound father in
religion Islam. All Prophets were the teacher that sent before Prophet Muhammad
(SAW) and obviously, Holy Prophet (PBUH) was also the great teacher for all
mankind. Prophet Muhammad (SAW) teaches us how to worship Allah, how to
implement teachings of the Quran in our daily lives and many other things. Islam lays
great emphasis on knowledge. At numerous times and instances, Allah Almighty
ordered the Muslims to acquire knowledge and learn.
 Always help your colleagues and friends in their work and other activities. Whether
you help teachers, students or even the caretakers. If you see that someone is
having some trouble carrying something, or anything similar, don’t hesitate in
staying and helping them.
And in helping others you should always have that in mind that you are doing this all
to please Almighty Allah and his Prophet (SAW).
 Don’t make fun of other students or staff members in any way. It shouldn’t matter to
you how they look or talk. If you didn’t have any friends, you would want at least
one person to be nice to you. So if you ever see someone looking lonely – be that
nice person.
 We should also have this in mind that whatever we are studying in university, our
main aim is to serve humanity after our degree. For instance, I’m a student of
Computer Science and I should think that oh Almighty Allah please help me to
complete my degree with good gardes and grant me a good job but beside this
please help me to use all the skills that I have learnt through university to benefits
the mankind and to the Muslim Ummah.

“Did you think that We had created you in play (without any purpose), and
that you would not be brought back to Us?”
So Exalted is Allah, the True king: none has the right to be worshipped but
He, the Lord of the Supreme Throne!
(Quran Surat-Ul-Mu’minum, 115:116 )
