Model of communication

Linear Model of Communication

Linear model is very basic. In the linear model, the sender communicates to the receiver. It is a one way
channel.Channels also play a big role in this model. With technology advancements, more and more
people are using this communication method.

In linear model, communication is considered one way process where sender is the only one who sends
message and receiver doesn’t give feedback or response. The message signal is encoded and
transmitted through channel in presence of noise. The sender is more prominent in linear model of
communication.

In this model there is no feedback or response which may allow for a continuous exchange of
information .

It is used in different ways according to the context. The most common occurrence is in connection with
regression models and the term is often taken as synonymous with linear regression model.

A line is straight, typically with a starting point and ending point. In this linear communication model,
the communication being put out happens in a straight line, coming from a sender to a receiver.

The process of one-way communication, whereby a sender transmits a message and a receiver absorbs
it.

The only task that a receiver does here is to receive the message. Different models that follow linear
model of communication are:

•Lasswell’s Model

•Aristotle’s Model

•Shannon Weaver Model

•Berlo’s S-M-C-R Model

Interactive Model of Communication

Interactive model (also known as convergence model) deals with exchange of ideas and messages taking
place both ways from sender to receiver and vice-versa.

The communication process take place between humans or machines in both verbal or non-verbal way.
This is a relatively new model of communication for new technologies like web.

It relies on an exchange of communication from the sender to the receiver and from the receiver to the
sender and back again. The interactive model allows for feedback, something that's absent in the linear
model.

It characterizes communication as a two way process. The sender formulates and transmits a message
to a receiver who, in turn, formulates and sends a response called feedback. A telephone conversation
and an interview exemplify this communication model.

It is two linear models stacked on top of each other.

It also has "field of experience" which includes our cultural background, ethnicity geographic location,
extent of travel, and general personal experiences accumulated over the course of your lifetime.

It is mostly used for new media like internet. Here, people can respond to any mass communications like
videos, news, etc. People can exchange their views and ideas. Different models that follow interactive
model of communication are:

•Schramm’s Interactive Model
