- Ensure that all required materials, tools and equipment are available at the site
prior commencement of the work.

6.6 Method of Installation – Fire rated Insulation.

6.6.1 Methodology
- Derived from Applus test APF 1446, for single layer low smoke temperature-25mm x
96kg/m3 with 3 inch overlapping at joints.

6.6.2 Insulation Layer:

- Refer figure 1.
- The layer of insulation is cut to a length sufficient to wrap around the duct and provide a 3
Inch overlap where the blanket ends meet. Adjacent blankets are installed to provide a
minimum overlap of 3 in (75mm). Banding and /or pinning per section is used to
permanently secure the insulation on duct.
6.6.3 Installation of Insulation Layer and Banding strap.
- Refer figure 1
- Ducts can be insulated first and then placed on the trapeze support channels or the
insulation can be applied on the installed ducts as shown in fig 1.
- Measure the Duct size and transfer the measurement onto the the Fastwrap Blanket, cut the
blankets and seal the open edges.
6.6.4 Banding and Pinning on ducts:
- Small ducts(Up to 610 mm wide ducts) : Minimum19 mm wide carbon steel or stainless steel
banding, min 0.4mm thick is placed around the entire perimeter of the insulated duct within
12 inches CC.
- Medium size ducts ( Ducts from 610mm up to 1500 mm wide): Minimum19 mm wide carbon
steel or stainless steel banding, min 0.4mm thick is placed around the entire perimeter of
the insulated duct with 6 inches CC.
- Large ducts: Ducts above 1500mm, Banding to be done at 6 inch CC and additionally steel
pins are welded on the duct for additional support additional support on the bottom of
horizontal duct or side of the vertical duct.

- Pins specification: When applicable, 12 Gage (3 mm) steel pins are installed on 12" (305mm)
centers along the width of the duct and 10-1/2" (270mm) centers along the length of the
duct. The length of the pins to be minimum 13 mm more than the thickness of the
insulation. Horizontal ducts are pinned from the bottom side and vertical ducts are pinned
on the widest side at 12 inch CC.
- Pins are welded using Capacitor discharge pin welding method. Pinning is done to avoid
sagging of blankets.
- Laying the blanket on the Duct and tape the starting edge on the longitudinal center of the
duct, wrap the Firemaster blanket onto to the duct sides and bottom.
- Securely tighten such that there no significant bulge on the blanket.
- Overlap the longitudinal edges by 3 inch. Tightly compress the longitudinal edges together
and temporarily tape it with a Aluminum foil or Aluglass tape to hold position.
- The steel banding is placed around the blanket and tightened/ tensioned to firmly hold the
Fastwrap XL in place against the duct, but not to cause any cutting or damage to the blanket.
- Banding is sealed or crimped with a steel Band seal on any face of the duct.
- Similarly install the adjacent layer overlapping the first layer by 3in at all seems.
- Blankets shall be impaled on the bottom side where the pins are welded.
- A friction fit washer is used to compress the blanket and to fix it in place.
- Pins that extend beyond washer shall be turned down or the excessive length cut off to
prevent sharp edges.

6.6.5 Support systems fixation and Protection.

- We recommend to follow SMACNA/ DW144 specification.
6.6.5.1 Maintenance and Repair :
- No maintenance is required when installed in accordance with Morgan Ceramics installation
instructions.
- If damage is limited to the foil facing, aluminum foil tape can be used to repair the foil

- If the damaged area is larger than 8" (203mm) x 8" (203mm) the entire wrap section must be
removed and replaced according to our installation instructions.
- If the damaged area is small (less than 8" (203mm) x 8" (203mm)), the damaged area must
be cut away and replaced with a new section 1" (25mm) larger in length and width than the
cut out, such that the new section can be compressed tightly into the cut out area. All cut
edges of the new section must be taped and sealed with aluminum foil tape. The new
section must be held in place with either pinning or banding per our installation instructions.
6.6.5.1 Limitations:
- Morgan FireMaster FastWrap XL shall be installed in accordance with these installation
instructions and appropriate laboratory design listings.
- The integrity of FastWrap XL systems is limited to the quality of the installation.
