Pages in the Classroom

Identification of the Learning Problem

Gordon County School System has gone to a 1:1 iPad to student initiative. This

means that all students Kindergarten through 12th grade were given iPads to use for

school. Students in Kindergarten through second grade must leave their iPads at

school for school use only. Students in 3rd grade through 12th grade can take their

iPads home if their parents pay an insurance fee. The purpose for the 1:1 iPad to

student initiative was to enhance the students learning through collaboration with

others and creativity. In September of 2019, all teachers in Gordon County were

given a Macbook Air to use for instruction. Now that the teachers have new

operating systems to learn, they need training. The teachers are not familiar with

the software or how to find help from Apple. When meeting with the principal of

Red Bud Middle School, she informed me that the eighth grade teachers needed to

be trained on how to use Pages. She specifically mentioned that these teachers

would be creating newsletters and other types of flyers that they would need to use

Pages to create. I took this information and created my face-to-face staff

development based on the needs of the eighth grade teachers that the principal

asked me to work with. The purpose of the staff development is to teach them how

to navigate Pages and use it as a resource in the classroom.

Instructional Objectives

 The staff will understand basic concepts to operate Pages, such as choosing a

template, adding text, adding media, and deleting unwanted items.

 The staff will use Pages as an instructional resource to meet grade level

standards.

Learner Analysis

The participants in the face-to-face staff development are eighth grade teachers

at Red Bud Middle School. Red Bud Middle School is a Title I school in the

county. The participants of this staff development teach different subjects, such

as English, math, science, social studies, and some teach specials classes. The

students in these teacher’s classes range from age 13 to 14.

Entry Level Skills

The participants in my staff development are familiar with operating Apple

software on an iPad. The teachers all have iPads that they were given before

receiving the Macbook Airs. Some participants have used other apps like

Keynote and iMovie.

Task Analysis
In this face-to-face staff development, I will be teaching the participants how to

navigate Pages. I will be showing the participants how to create newsletters

using Pages. I chose this based on the information that I received when meeting

with the principal of Red Bud Middle School. I will also demonstrate and

provide ideas to the staff on how to use Pages in the classroom. I have used

Pages to create newsletters, flyers, and other important documents for my own

classroom. I have also had my students create their own newsletters and flyers

using Pages in the classroom. After using Pages in my own classroom I feel

confident in delivering this face-to-face staff development. I will be the expert

delivering instruction in this session.

Assessment

1. Before the face-to-face staff development, I met with the principal of Red

Bud Elementary School. The principal said that the eighth grade teachers

needed professional development on Pages. She said that they needed to

learn how to use Pages and how to incorporate it into their classroom

assignments.

2. The participants will create newsletters using Pages. Some participants will

share their newsletters with the others.

3. After the staff development, the participants will fill out an evaluation

survey created on Google Forms.

Instructional Sequencing

Sequence Description Objective

1 Introduce Pages 1
2 Navigate Pages 1
3 Creating a Newsletter on 1

Pages
4 Participants Create a 2

Newsletter on Pages

Objective 1

The staff will understand basic concepts to operate Pages, such as choosing a

template, adding text, adding media, and deleting unwanted items.

Initial Strategy
The instructor will use the Apple TV to connect the Macbook Air to the screen.

This will allow the instructor to navigate Pages while the participants are

navigating Pages on their own computers at the same time.

Generative Strategy

Once the participants have watch the instructor navigate Pages, they will be given

time to play with the features on Pages individually.

Objective 2

The staff will use Pages as an instructional resource to meet grade level standards.

Initial Strategy

The instructor will use the Apple TV, so that the participants can be guided

through the process of creating a newsletter on Pages using their own Macbook

Air.

Generative Strategy

After the instructor guides the participants through the process of using Pages to

create newsletters, the instructor will show the participants examples of newsletters

made on Pages. The participants will then create their own newsletters using

Pages. Participants will share the newsletters that they made.

Instructional Design Summary

To begin this face-to-face staff development, the instructor will display a Keynote

presentation. The instructor will present the topic that she will be teaching the

participants. The instructor will then go over the goals for the staff development.

The instructor will go over the basics of the Pages program. Once the instructor has

taught the participants the basics of the program Pages, the instructor will

demonstrate how to create a newsletter using Pages. The instructor will provide a

finished example for the participants. Participants will then be asked to make their

own newsletters for their classroom content, using Pages. Participants will share

their newsletters at the end of the staff development. The instructor will answer

any questions that the participants might have at the end of the staff development.

The participants will complete a evaluation survey before the staff development is

completed.

Formative Evaluation Plan

The evaluation survey was created on Google Forms. This survey is for the

participants to give the instructor feedback on the staff development. I created this

survey to see how well the information was delivered and if the teachers will use

the information that they learned, about using Pages, in their own classrooms. I
will analyze the data from the survey to make improvements to the staff

development.
