Nature of Work Done

During my institutional training at Oriental Insurance Company India Ltd., I came

across so many new policies and concepts of an insurance company. It was a
really beneficial training as I was equipped with a good knowledge about General
insurance concept. Mrs. Lalitha, the regional head manager, welcomed us to the
company and introduced us to Mr. Krishnan sir, the assistant regional manager,
who was assigned to overlook our performance and guide us during our
internship.

On the first week, we were assigned by Lalitha ma’am to be given an orientation.

We were given a tour of the company and its various departments. We were
shown the processes done in Finance department, Secretarial department, HR
Department, etc. After being oriented and introduced to the company, Krishnan
sir assigned us files and a work desk with a computer. Our job was to read the
insurance policy carefully, analyse if the files we had fulfilled the terms of the
policy and enter it into the excel.

Second week, since there was an issue with Microsoft Office in the computer, our
HR printed excel sheets and instructed us to enter the data in the printed sheets
instead until the issue gets fixed. We were also called by Lalitha ma’am that week
and were lectured on benefits of General Insurance. She also handed us candy
bars as a good gesture.

On Third week, we were assigned a new task of entering data of ‘Hitachi’ products
that were insured by the company. We were also to make sure that the insured
product met the terms and conditions of the policy. And in an event where the
insured product has already been entered by an employee working in the
company, we must avoid reentering so that it would avoid confusion. The
problem with the Microsoft Office was also solved so we were given the work
desk back.
On fourth week, we were given an insight to the working of an insurance
company and were also given textbooks to read about Insurance. On our last day
they gave us a memorable farewell and wished us good luck for our future.
