QUESTION ONE (30mks)

a) Use the Venn diagram to prove that (x + y +z ) · (x +y +z' ) = x + y (5mks)


b) Differentiate between Boolean algebra and Logic Gates (5mks)
c) Define XNOR Logic gates and give its truth table. (10mks)
d) Differentiate AND and OR logic function and give their truth table (10mks)

QUESTION TWO (20mks)

a) Use the truth tables method to determine whether the formula φ: (p∧¬q) → (p∧q) is a
logical consequence of the formula ψ : ¬p. (5marks)
b) Differentiate between a half adder and a full adder. (5mks)
c) Draw a circuit diagram corresponding to the following Boolean expression: (AB + C)D ,
using this expression to find its truth table. (10marks)
QUESTION THREE (20mks)

a) Using circuit diagram explain each of the following gates


i. NOT (4 marks)
ii. NAND (4 marks)
iii. XOR (4 marks)
iv. OR (4 marks)
v. NOR (4 marks)

QUESTION FOUR (20mks): (4mks for each sub question)


a) Draw and label the symbol for a three input AND gate, then show its behavior with a
truth table
b) Draw and label the symbol for a three-input OR gate, then show its behavior with a truth
table.
c) Draw a circuit diagram corresponding to the following Boolean expression: (A + B)(B +
C)
d) Use this Boolean expression: (A + B)(B + C) to Find its truth table.
e) Given the circuits diagram bellow, Find their Boolean expressions and give their truth
tables.

QUESTION FIVE (20mks)

a) Determine the Boolean expression for a full adder (2.5mks)


b) Explain multiplexer (2.5mks)
c) Explain what happens when an electric signal is grounded (2.5mks)
d) Discuss the three terminals in a transistor and how do they operate (5mks)
e) Explain the two general categories of circuits and how do they differ (5mks)
f) Explain how does a transistor behave (2.5mks)
