The main difference between the projects and operations is that those activities that are

repetitive in nature are called Operations whereas activities that are temporary in nature,
unique and have specific start and ending are known as Projects. Also, projects are progressive
in nature. For projects we need to have a certain goal and objective because without it there is
no project.
Now we’ll see some examples of projects and operations and analyze why are we considering
them as projects or operations.

1. Operations in Banking Industry


Banking operations involves the practices and procedures that a bank uses to ensure that
customers’ transactions are completed accurately and appropriately. In bank operations may
be involved in

 Account opening and follow up of the details provided by the bank customer
 Processing of credit facilities requested by the bank customer and ensure credit
worthiness.
 Payments of all receipts on demand.
 Processing of domestic and foreign fund transfer.
 closing of account on customers request.
 Acceptance of deposits from customers.
 Proper documentation of the various transactions in the bank.

2. Operations in Hotel Industry


A hotel cannot run smoothly without the right people and right resources in the right
departments. In hotel first there are

 front desk services: These people are constantly in contact with the guests and are
responsible of taking and handling bookings
 Housekeeping: Keeping your guest rooms clean and tidy is an essential task.
 Maintenance: to Fix and repair the utilities and electronics
 Kitchen staff: to keep up with the order and meet your customers dining needs.
 Accounting: tracking of the daily expenses and revenues.
3. Operations in Hospital
A hospital’s operation includes the following:

 All administrative aspects of OPD, IPD, Casualty, OT and Diagnostics


 Other medical services provided by the hospital (e.g. day surgery, homecare, mobile
health services). These administrative aspects include activities like appointment
scheduling, patient registration, billing and payment, admissions and discharge in case
of IPD, managing beds and OT availability and OT scheduling, diagnostics reports
delivery etc.

1. Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metro bus Project:

The Rawalpindi-Islamabad Metrobus is a 22.5 km (14.0 mi) bus rapid transit system operating
in the Islamabad Rawalpindi metropolitan area of Pakistan. Construction of the bus rapid transit
system began on 28 February 2014 and was completed by June 2015, with 60 buses initially
plying on the route. The construction project was awarded to Habib Construction Services
which is one of the largest construction companies of Pakistan and have worked on several
other mega projects previously.

2. Thar Engro Coal Power Project

The Thar Engro Coal Power Project (Thar-ll) is a coal-fired power plant under construction in
Tharparkar District, Sindh, Pakistan 25 kilometers from the town of Islamkot near the village of
Singharo-Bitra. The project is being developed as part of the China–Pakistan Economic Corridor by
Sindh Engro Coal Mining Company (a joint venture between the government of Sindh and Engro
Corporation) and China Machinery Engineering Corporation in the Thar Block-II of the Coalfield. The
project started in 2014 and completed in 2019.

3. One Belt One road

The One Belt One Road (OBOR), the brainchild of Chinese President Xi Jinping, is an ambitious
economic development and commercial project that focuses on improving connectivity and
cooperation among multiple countries spread across the continents of Asia, Africa, and Europe.
Dubbed as the “Project of the Century” by the Chinese authorities, OBOR spans about 78
countries. This Initiative is adopted by the Chinese government in 2013 and is expected to be
completed in 2049.
