WHO WHERE

WHEN WHAT

WHY
(+ maybe HOW)
Hook, Line & Sinker
THE HOOK is your intriguing major
statement – the news.

Put the most catchy of the Ws (usually What) in the first

sentence, followed by your next important fact (probably Who)
and secondary details (When, Where) - Think of your hook as a
Tweet.

THE LINE is an expansion of the

hook.

Add a little more description that reinforces the hook and adds
another dimension, but only refer to aspects of your background
and history that connect directly to the news. Keep it short but
cite interesting complications.

THE SINKER Is your CALL-

TO-ACTION

Reinforce your hook one more time and then let them know what
to do next.

⚫ Use the Hook, Line & Sinker method
⚫ Lead with facts that can be absorbed at a glance

⚫ Be clear about your 'Why' - it's often the most important & persuasive factor
