READING
FRAMING AND READING
Framing means to construct, compose or
imagine something, meaning to create with
a solid plan to follow using a specific
structure in mind.
NEWS
the communication of information on
current events print, broadcast, Internet, or
word of mouth to a third party or mass
audience.
Newspaper
a regularly scheduled publication containing news,
information and advertising , usually printed on
relatively inexpensive, low grade paper such as
newsprint.

• Classified Ads
HEADLINES
These are usually found on the
front page of the paper. The
title of the news is printed in
big, bold letters called
“banner headline”
EDITORIAL PAGE

Editorials give views or


opinions of the editor or
publisher on certain
issues or events.
SPORTS SECTION
This section contains news on
events containing sports from
in and out of the country. This
section also contains well-
known people in the sports
world.
CLASSIFIED ADS
Contains advertisements
that fall under the
categories like “Help”,
“Wanted”, “For Lease /
For Sale”, and “Wanted
To Buy”.
BUSINESS AND
FINANCE SECTIONS
Contains businessmen and
people interested in
business with information
on banking. foreign
exchange rates, imports and
exports, and prices of prime
commodities.
ENTERTAINMENT
 Contains info about movies,
radio, television, and other
activities for entertainment.
LIFESTYLE
Provides info about
budgeting, food
preparation, house
improvement, etc.
OBITUARIES
Provides info on the
activities of different
religious sections and also
lists people who recently
died and the time and place
of their burials.
5Ws and 1H
This involves presenting
the details by answering the
basic questions about the
news item presented in
inverted pyramid style.

This means narrating the

Pass the Message!

The purpose of this game is to see if the same meaning will


be decoded by the people who receive and send the message
to others. This is where you’ll discover the concept of
having “noise” or misinterpretation in the passage of
information through various channels.
GROUP ACTIVITY
Here’s the mechanics:
1. Divide yourself into 2 or 3 groups.
2. Each group should form a circle
3. Select one group leader who will write a 3 sentence
story/message on a piece of paper.
4. The leader will whisper the 3 line story/message on his
or her right.
5. The person on the leader’s left will then pass the
message back to the leader.

Discuss the process.

So was the message close to the original or far from it?


What do you think happens to a message along the way?
What could cause the discrepancies?
What makes the message passing a success?
