AN ARTICLE DESCRIBING AN EVENT


When you’re writing an article describing an event, follow the plan below :

HEADLINE

Write an interesting headline to catch the reader’s attention.

INTRODUCTION
Give some general information about the event :

 Name
 Where and when it takes / took place
 What the event is/ was for (celebration, festival, ceremony, fund – raiser )
 Who takes / took part ( could also be included in the main part.)

MAIN PART ( 2 – 3 paragraphs )

Develop the important features of the event :

 Preparation for the event


 What activities take / took place
 What happens / happened after the event

CONCLUSION

Give your overall opinion of this event or make a general statement.

REMEMBER !!

 An article is usually written for a newspaper or magazine. Use different techniques to


make it more interesting. Ask questions, include exclamation marks and use a variety
of words an expressions.
 Use the present Simple when describing an event which takes place regularly.
 Use past tenses when describing an event which took place in the past and that you
know about or attended
 Use linking words / phrases
 Use the Passive voice to write in an impersonal way.
