Content Standards
The learner demonstrates understanding of: East Asian literature as an art form inspired and
influenced by nature; relationship of visual, sensory, and verbal signals in both literary and
expository texts; strategies in listening to long descriptive and narrative texts; value of literal
and figurative language; and appropriate grammatical signals or expressions suitable to
patterns of idea development.
Performance Standards
The learner transfers learning by composing and delivering a brief and creative entertainment
speech featuring a variety of effective paragraphs, appropriate grammatical signals or
expressions in topic development, and appropriate prosodic features, stance, and behavior.

Using Information from News reports, Speeches, Informative Talks and Panel Discussions

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson the students are expected to:
a. identify the different parts of news reports.
b. write a short news report.
c. appreciate the importance of using information through news reports.
III. PROCEDURES
A. Reviewing previous lesson or presenting the new lesson.
News is a package of information about news events happening around the world. It can be
shared or moved to different media platforms through word of mouth, printing, postal systems,
broadcasting, and electronic communication.
News reports are found in newspapers and their purpose is to inform readers of what is
happening in the world around them. A news report follows a certain structure.
Common Topics for News Report: •Education• Terrorism • Politics • Business • Sports
•Events • Entertainment • Celebrities •Places •Government • Health
PARTS OF NEWS STORY:
1. News reports begin with a catchy HEADLINE (it is the title of the article that should be
interesting enough to grab the attention of the readers)
2. The BYLINE is the name of the person who wrote the report. (Remember that whenever you
write your news report you need to use your name.)
3. The PLACELINE is where the report was written (The place of the report was written
depends on where the incident took place)
4. The LEAD informs the reader of the most important aspects of the story as soon as
possible. It is part of the news that most people read.
Use the 5Ws and H rule:
•WHO is involved • WHAT took place or happened •WHEN did it take place •WHERE did it
take place •WHY did it happen •HOW did it happen (include this only if there is space)
Sample of Lead Paragraph:
Paragraph 1
Yesterday, Lorena was shocked to find a snake inside their bathroom. (It includes WHO,
WHAT, WHEN and WHERE)
Paragraph 2
Explains HOW and WHY the incident happened.
Paragraph 3
Includes at least one quoted statement of someone who was part of the incident and who was
interviewed for the report.
Paragraph 4
Includes additional information the reader may want to know.
BODY is part of the news report gives more details and provides more information about the
why and HOW of the story.
TAIL contains less important information which is often omitted by the newspaper editor if
there is not enough space left in the newspaper.

Directions: Write a news story about our first day of school 2024-2023. Organize the information
of your news story from the most important to the least.
