SUBJECT:
V505 and Z1 Touchpad Issue Resolution.
3. SYMPTOM:
Customer reports erratic touchpad movement, intermittent freezing of cursor, or windows
opening/closing and/or minimizing/maximizing on their own.

4. SOLUTION:
1. Update the touchpad driver to the latest version using the Support Site
(http://www.ita.sel.sony.com/support/).
2. After rebooting the unit, open Control Panel. In Classic View, double-click the Mouse icon.
In Category View, the Mouse applet is listed under the Printers and Other Hardware
category. Alternatively, simply type control main.cpl in the Run dialog box.
3. Click on the Function tab. Ensure that the Scrolling and Web Assistant items are
unchecked and the Left Corner Assign drop down menu is set to “None” as shown photo
#1.

4. Click on the Hardware tab. While the “Alps Film Pointing device” is selected, click on the
Properties button (photo #2).

5. Click on the Advanced Settings tab of the Properties window. Set the Sample Rate to 200
reports / second (see photo #3).

6. Restart the computer when prompted.
7. After testing the touchpad, communicate the steps taken to the customer through the TSA
group. The customer will need to know what steps to take in the event they run a recovery
on their unit.

8. IMPORTANT!
On any unit that is reimaged, update to the touchpad driver from the Support
site to prevent future touchpad issues and customer complaints.
