Barnstead Police Department Receives Grant

The call to order, Pledge of Allegiance and approval of the prior weeks meeting,
marked the beginning of the July 23 Town of Barnstead’s meeting.
Town employee’s vacation requests were reviewed and approved.
An oil agreement was made with Huckleberry Propane & Oil LLC and the Town of
Barnstead. The town will be filling their buildings with Huckleberry at 2.37 dollars per gallon.
Chief Paul A. Poirier stood before the selectmen, proposing a grant of 7,522.35 dollars
to put toward more equipment and other needs their department has. Poirier said although
current officers are constantly going into overtime, they have been “frugal” with the money
they get from traffic violations. One of the selectmen explained that all the overtime the
officers are doing to make sure someone is always on the clock is “eating up” at their
retirement funds. The police department was granted the money, and is currently trying to find
more full time employees.
They posted on their Facebook page (@barnsteadpd.org) reaching out to their
community, “Interested applicants should email their resume including their current mailing
address and a cover letter to Chief Paul A. Poirier at ppoirier@barnsteadpd.org no later than
August 5,
2019.”
During public announcements, Carol Tiede brought to the board's attention, Howard
Welch of Barnstead was found by a neighbor in his home on the floor in a serious condition.
After four days of laying on his floor, he is now in intensive care at the hospital. Tiede noted
that there are a lot of people in the community that live alone, a majority of them being senior
citizens. Tiede said she would like for the town to come up with some way of checking in on
people, so nothing like that happens in the future.
If someone would like to discuss a topic or situation during the Town of Barnstead
meetings they are asked to call the Barnstead’s town hall office by the Thursday before the
following Tuesday. The Barnstead Town meetings are held every Tuesday at 5pm in the town
hall.
