Q what are the advantages of windowing method

The major advantage of window technique is its simplicity. The availability of well defined
equations for calculating window coefficient has made this method preferable. But it offers
very little design flexibility especially in low pass filter design. Kaiser window offers very
low order to meet given specification.

Q what is gibb’s phenomenon?

The Gibbs phenomenon involves both the fact that Fourier sums overshoot at a jump
discontinuity, and that this overshoot does not die out as more terms are added to the sum.
The three pictures on the right demonstrate the phenomenon for a square wave (of height )
whose Fourier expansion is
Q what is truncation
1. To shorten or reduce: The script was truncated to leave time for commercials. See Synonyms at
shorten. 2. To shorten (a number) by dropping one or more digits after the decimal point.

Q what is Frequency warping

Frequency warping transformation is a process where one spectral representation on a

certain frequency scale (e.g., Hz, f-domain) and with a certain frequency resolution (most
often uniform) is transformed to another representation on a new frequency scale (e.g., Bark
or ERB-rate scale, v-domain).

Q what is the difference between fir and iir filters

1. IIR is infinite and used for applications where linear characteristics are not of concern.

2. FIR filters are Finite IR filters which are required for linear-phase characteristics.

3. IIR is better for lower-order tapping, whereas the FIR filter is used for higher-order

tapping.

4. FIR filters are preferred over IIR because they are more stable, and feedback is not

involved.

5. IIR filters are recursive and used as an alternate, whereas FIR filters have become too long

and cause problems in various applications.
