Assignment: Understanding the argumentative writing sequence

1. Choose one of the issues in the list, you do not need to be an expert on the
topic, but you have to be familiar with the arguments people usually make
about it:
 Should all students know about how to avoid plagiarism when they copy
information from the internet?

2. Take two or three minutes to exchange your opinions. Who do you think is
going to be the audience of your paper? Record your results in this way (the

3. Construct an argument for your position giving reasons with supporting


arguments. Anticipate likely objections from a reader who might disagree with
your position. Then, write down your findings under the following headings

Reasons:
1. Teachers have to explain students how to avoid plagiarism, not only in the
language classroom, but also in all academic periods.
2. Computers are a good tool for them, but they have to use it in a correct way.
They have to be original, having their own concepts and contents of the
knowledge.

Support needed:
1. Teachers’ roles.
2. Students’ experience with the issue.

Likely objections:
1. Copying assignment on the internet will be easier than creating new ideas.
2. Students do not get effort to investigate and create their knowledge.

Reasons:
I learnt that this part is very important because we have to clarify the claim of the
argument.
It was not difficult to think about reasons of the topic because it is a known theme.
I think that the best solution is that teachers have to find the appropriate
methodology to explain them how to avoid plagiarism in their academic periods.

I learnt that this part has to support the objective of the topic.
I took some students’ experience and anecdotes of the.

The easiest support was the students’ experience, but the hardest was the teacher
role because in this part the teacher had to look for a suitable methodology to
explain learners how to avoid the plagiarism

Objections:
I learnt to make an effort to see the others’ points of views some positives and
some negatives.
It arised of some students’ experience and my own experience.
It was not difficult to consider readers’ objections because I am using the
experiences of some learners.
