Ericsson CPICH versus Total power

Description
The purpose of this document it to describe the ratio between CPICH1 and available power from
a network element.

Description
In WCDMA FDD cellular systems, CPICH is a downlink channel broadcast by the Node Bs with a constant power
and of a known bit sequence. Its power is usually between 5% to 15% of the total Node B transmit power (typical
total transmit power is 43 dBm, corresponding to 20 watts).

The correct percentage of power to use will depend on the location and usage of the network element. If the Node B
is rural, a higher CPICH may be required in order to increase coverage, but opposite, a city node B may need a lower
CPICH in order to allow power to other services.

A simple way to quickly determine the CPICH power to use may be:

‫ ݈݁ݒ݁ܮ ݁ܿ݅ݒݎ݁ܵ ݉ݑ݉݅݊݅ܯ ݐ݁݃ݎܽܶ = ܪܥܫܲܥ‬+ ‫ݐܽܲ ݔܽܯ‬ℎ ‫ݏݏ݋ܮ‬

If the Target Minimum Service Level should be -95 dBm and the Max Path loss should be 130 dB, then the
recommended CPICH power would be around 35 dBm, corresponding at around 10%
