3.7.7 – Determine personal contributions to working with culturally
diverse communities and learners by reflecting on one’s own
personal culture

Everyone has a personal culture in their lives. Personal culture is what makes us

different from everyone else in the world, Its where we are from, what our traditions are,

what we celebrate, what we want to do when we get older, etc. I am german, I celebrate

Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, and Halloween, I love playing volleyball and I love

coloring, that's how I would explain my culture. Everyone has a different culture and

that's what makes me different from a lot of people in the United States. Some people

might not celebrate Christmas and they might celebrate Hanukkah instead. Which isn't a

bad thing.

Having different cultures can and will play a role in the classroom and students'

education. To keep everyone engaged and feel like they are an important priority to you,

you will need to make sure that you don't exclude any culture from existing in your

classroom. To do this I have created a culture presentation that students will do in

groups to research all the different types of cultures here can be(2.4.1). This will help

with everyone feeling included and not left out, because everyone is unique in their way.

Having a lot of different cultures in your classroom can help you out. It can give you a

different perspective on topics that you might not have thought of if it wasn't for having

different cultures engage in class discussions. This can help widen the knowledge of
everyone. We only know what we know so when we put a majority of different minds

together and work all together it can make you a more diverse thinker!

I think that there is no reason to not accept anyone just because they have a different

culture than you. Everyone comes from a different background and that's what makes

school so great. It would be beyond boring if everyone was the same and thought the

same. It's for the best that we are all different. It helps us grow as students and

educators.
