2 Career Path
1.1.2 -- Identify the scope of career opportunities and the
requirements for education, training, certification, licensure, and
experience

To explain my career path that I’ve chosen, I created a prezi link that explains my plans starting

where I am now, in high school, the classes I have taken that will help me in my future career in

early childhood education, also the surveys and tests I have taken in Teacher Academy that

confirms a lot of the qualities I have shown that I want to be a teacher and would best be one for

younger children. I then put all the colleges I have visited and which ones I am leaning toward

applying and going to. Lastly, on my path is my degree and my dream teaching job; including

where and what I would like to teach.

I researched careers in education by surveying a teacher in my school building that has inspired

me even more to be a great teacher in the future. (3.2.1). My teacher academy class also visited

the Olentangyy administrations office and got to speak to Mr. Raiff, our school superintendent, a

school board member and the Olentangy Teacher Association president.I learned of many

career opportunities in education other than just in the classroom, such as Principal,

Superintendent, Nurse, ect. (3.2.2)

In my class we also looked at documents that included very important information about teacher

licensure, which included the Ohio Teacher Licensure Structure ( 3.2.3). I think that seeing this

was important to do because some things you wouldn't expect to be on there are, such as

behaviors with kids or how to treat and act in situations. All of the things on there are key rules

to follow.
To start the beginning of my career, I’ve had to go on college visits to get the feeling of schools

and figure out which one best fits my lifestyle. So far I have gone to Bowling Green, Capital

University, Ohio University, Otterbien, Ohio Weslyn and Columbus State. I am leaning towards

Capital and Bowling Green. I know they have really good teaching opportunities there and

would be the best options for becoming a teacher. ( 3.2.4)

I would like to get my masters in early childhood education the first four years of college and

then after I get my first job and get settled with my place I would like to go back eventually and

get my bachelors and expand my knowledge and opportunities in my career to see if I can do

any more than just classroom teaching eventually. This is what my mom did and she loved it

because at first it can be a lot to handle so she did not recommend going all at once but as soon

as she got into the motions she wanted to be able to expand her job and have other

opportunities within teaching. (3.2.5)

Lastly, my dream job as a teacher would be in a suburban elementary school teaching first

graders.I would love to do this specifically because I work at a daycare and yes, I love all the

kids but I really love the first grader that I watch because they are at a point where they are

trying to be independent but aren't old enough to do everything by themselves and they can for

the most part hold a decent conversation with you and I just love being around them so much.
